This fellow was the only one without a response & finally got one a few minutes ago.

When you read the description it's not surprising. Not exactly designed to instill confidence.

Here is the seamstress business: I'm guessing the photo for the restaurant (another Riffat with a different family name) is wrong.

To finish construction & install bathroom $ 500.00

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=18603

Put roof on bathroom - $ 1000.00

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=18471

Expand house - $ 800.00

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=18598

Concrete roof for house - $ 900.00

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=18598

Fix bathroom & install floor - $ 1200.00

Do some of the requested amounts make sense for the projcts or am I seeing something that ist there?

Bathroom roof $ 1000.00, house roof $ 900.00 ?

I know this subject has been covered before but there's something that bothers me about all these construction loans in Mexico. It seems to me that the purpose of loans is to allow entrepeneurs to start or expand or increase a business, in other words, increase income & this increased income will pay for the loan. I can't see where this is the case with construction loans unless you charge a fee for people to use the bathroom or you rent out the house once it has a roof.

Not sure if this is quite the right place for this, but I spotted three loans out for funding today from these guys in Azerbaijan

Serkardar Huseynov
Rasul Huseynov
and
Dunyamin Huseynov

Nothing in the write-ups to suggest that the Huseynovs work together in the meat trade, but close examination of the photos (look at the tiles and the metal poles...) suggests they were all taken in the same premises.   If it's really one family business, the total of $1700 over the 3 loans comfortably breaches the current $1200 Kiva limit.

I hope that there's nothing fishy about this, and that there is a reasonable explanation.  I suppose what would count as a good explanation is that they each run entirely independent businesses from the same premises and are in competition with each other..

I think they're likely independent, but butcher-ing right next to each other in a common stall area in the market.  That would make sense to me, anyway.

Also, the Kiva loan limit is apparently $2000 (I've seen that several places, will try to find documentation...).  Recently loans have not exceeded $1200, except in rare instances, but in the past $2000 was not terribly unheard of.

I find this request interesting:

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=18898

It's for $ 300.00 over 18 month & the lady is already contemplating another loan of $ 500.00.

But what I'm curious about is that she claims to clear $ 44.00 per day from her business or nearly     1000.00 per month & yet wants to repay the loan at the rate of about 17 bucks monthly.

No takers so far.

Here's another one:

It seems all the loans for Samoa are for $ 300.00 & always over 18 month.
