Indeed, it's entirely plausible that both women work from this same place.  I meant to draw attention only to the fact that "Beauty Salon" is the activity stated in the "About the Entrepreneur" panel to the right of the photo, and both women are stated to be borrowing for a purpose unconnected with hairdressing.

It's because it's plausible that both women work from the same place, and maybe even share the same slightly beaten up hair dryer, that the person who took the photo was probably not thinking straight when he or she moved the hairdryer about 8 feet to the right of where it appears in Beatrice's photo, in order to take the photo of Tina posing with it.

This one I loaned to yesterday says what I think 'should' be on their 'template'.

Jebraeel appears in the photo at the FATEN office with some of his products.

Perhaps we should be pressing Kiva to share with us the 'template' and we can have as much fun with it as we did with the popularity algorithm Smiley

This discussion reminded me immediately of the questionable photo techniques used by Aqroinvest in their shopkeeper loans....

Tha Navy

Quote
Tha Navy is 29 years old and lives in Takeo province with her husband and two young children. She is a garment factory worker and is able to make about US$1.50 each day, while her husband, pictured here, has a business making rice wine. On average, he makes US$2 per day. Than Navy is asking for a loan of US$1000 so that her husband can reinvest in rice wine business.

Loan Use:    Reinvest in rice wine business.... the Activity is listed as Tailoring Huh?

someone ticked the wrong box on the template...

[I'm finally catching up on all the posts I missed.]
Since this loan is to the wife, I guess tailoring is as close an Activity as they can get to a piecework (sweatshop?) garment factory.  Apparently his activity is much more photogenic.  Smiley

Sabrine

Sabrine has worked as a hairdresser since 2004. She’s 33 years old and is married with two young children. She helps her husband in the household.

Today, Sabrine is asking to borrow $1,200 to buy a special hair machine and beauty products to satisfy the needs of her clientele.

Hairdresser? The photo suggests clothing shop. Wrong photo, maybe? Wonder if there's a loan for a clothing shop showing someone cutting hair.....

This young fellow doesn't look like a chicken farmer to me; it looks like he is holding three dead chickens.  Does anyone have any ideas what this loan could really be for?

It says "The main source of income for the business comes from raising chickens for sale" but doesn't add "as pets" - I assume he raises them for sale as food.

It sounds reasonable that he would butcher any animals he sells for human consumption.  Any particular reason why his motives are being questioned?

I think Karen has every right to question what this loan may be for.

My first reaction when I saw this loan, after it was already funded, was this:
If this man is a chicken farmer, then I am the Virgin Mary.

Personally, I like to know exactly what a loan is for before I fund it. I think a photo displaying the butts, the back legs and the very limp heads of 3 dead chickens is an odd way of displaying a business for raising chickens and an odd way to advertise and ask for a loan for the business. I think a few live chickens running around in the grass might be more effective if the business is really for raising food chickens.

Some of us have ethical and moral reasons for not supporting certain businesses/loans so we would really like to know exactly what a business is doing before we support that business.
