Welcome to the first round of voting which is open until Monday 17th (5 days total).

There are 16 concurrent polls (one for each country) – remember to vote in each one.

Below are links to each  entrepreneurs' profile and a thumbnail (which in turn is linked to the full-sized image – be warned some are a couple of MB or more)

The winner of each country will then go through to the next round of voting*. (Results will be available after the poll has ended).

*I am currently reserving the right that if there is a tie I will have the casting vote (I will not have voted in the poll, however tempting it might be).

Where possible the casting vote will be used to ensure:
- a balance of male and female entrepreneurs (as to the Kiva ratio)
- a balance of businesses (farming, shops, repairs, food, markets etc).

If we don't get this balance I propose to open up a new thread to discuss how a balance can be achieved before the next round of voting.

Christopher,

I am wondering why these two photos weren't included (from my reply #243 of the "Calendar" thread from yesterday).

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=18035  Cambodia

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=18038  Cambodia

Did they miss the "cut," time-wise or otherwise?

Thanks!

Krishna, the poll is set to only permit one unchangeable vote.  But if you contact Joe or Diane I think they might be able to help you with that.  Just send them a quick message.

Wow, where is the thread to tell me where to order the calendar?  Gotta get em.

Kivafriends.org scrambled and respelled is "Risk And Forgive."  Of course, it also can be respelled "Asked For Virgin" and "Darer of Vikings" and even "Vinegar For Kids" but those are a lot less interesting.

Michael, the calenders will be available on Kivastore.org.  Once most of whats on the inside is ready to go and we can work on a cover, I think Chris will probably place them on his Kiva store site for pre-orders, but thats all up to his own discretion.  It is a little early for it but stay posted, hopefully within the next two-three weeks.  Not sure on pricing, but they will definitely be low, very low.

Steve, what about making two versions -

one with the price "low, very low"

one adding $25 to the cost of the calendar and including a Kiva gift certficate on the first page?  (Available by prepay or preorder only.)  This would make the calendar a great holiday gift.

Just an idea.  Maybe logistically a pain in the arse, though.

Oh btw these will be cheap based upon the # of calendars we order in bulk, looking at about 1000 as of last I heard, and also because we are selling them more or less at cost...we arent intending to make a profit.  The people at Kiva seem to be all for the calendar but recommend we not profit any, even though we planned on using the profit money for loans through a "kivafriends" account on kiva.org.  But anyways....

I think your idea is really innovative...I spent a few minutes rehearsing how it might work in my head, because as you mentioned it probably would be somewhat burdensome.  But Ill pass it along to some of the others in the calender topic.  Better yet you should drop in yourself and share any ideas you have...its located here if you hadnt seen it...

The more input the better the calendar will turn out.

This poll is now locked.  Thank you to everyone who voted - your efforts have gone through to the second round.

Most of the polls in the first round had run away winners, though it seems a couple of them at least were much harder for voters to decide and were closer.

Where the polls were close the runners up (within about 10% of the winner) have also gone through - as have all the countries in the Rest of the World poll.

This has given us a good mix for the second round...
