I was looking at the loans available today, and spotted a few people go for more than $25 and get it. This practice is so tacky when the limits are up. Non-Kivan and Greedy are a few words I'd describe these people as being

Inconsistent (others might call it sloppy) programming. Once you have the loan in your basket you can change the amount. When Kiva puts the $25 limit button up they also need to remove the drop down list on the Basket page.

I don't think you can blame the lenders. They are just trying to do good. If Kiva wants to limit the contributions to $25, they need to do a better job programming.

Kiva has efficient analysts and programmers, so I believe that they don't want to prevent people from lending higher amounts, but that they just want to convey the message that massive lending is not welcome. Even if the possibility to change the amount in the second step were removed, there would be another way to cheat: make many loans of $25 to the same person. The small loans add up and there is only one record in the database.

in my mind... i'm trying to justify a reason for it to be acceptable. for a newbie who isn't aware i'll accept 'oops'. But for a seasoned KIVAN who's aware of the current situation... I still have to use those terms. The 'doing good' is erased by not letting more people in on the loan. But, you know what.... it's just my opinion.

Robert, you can't have it both ways: limit and not limit. I think that KIVA wants to limit, because as Steve confirmed in another thread http://www.kivafriends.org/index.php/topic,974.msg9114.html#msg9114 there is a one loan per day limit. Henry, yes you are right. At least us KIVAN's who are aware of the situation should behave and limit ourselves to $25 per loan, but it is also KIVA's responsibility to close the loop holes. Ulli

I just did a dry run Ulli and once the loan was in my basket I could only lend $25.00

This is what I see on the basket page. I could select higher amounts, but I did not try to check out.

I saw the same thing, and was able to change it to 50$. I got up to the screen where I sign into Pay Pal, and exited. I'm sure it would have let me fund larger amounts. (i have cleared my basket so that the test did not show any amounts being raised already)

I went ahead and signed into PayPal. There I played about with funding options and currency conversions, but Kiva's basked wasn't altered or denied. I could have made my $50 loan, but emptied my basket and left. This doesn't surprise me, as it isn't PayPal's business to discuss the contents of an invoice.

Richard posted over in the "hold your horses" thread the following:
I love it when someone who joins today has about as many loans as me!
Who's holding their horses?!
Should we offer them an emergency membership in Kiva Addicts Shout-from-the-Rooftops Among Us?!
Shocked Huh? Roll Eyes Wink Laugh
Seems like there are any number of ways to get around the limits if you really have to.
