Let voting commence for round 2! You have 13 votes to use (nominally 12 months + cover), which will give us a priority list to work from. You may change your vote while the poll is open - which is for 5 days. The results will not be shown until the poll has ended. Entrepreneurs are listed in alphabetical order. You can vote for more than one person per country, but no countries will be duplicated in the final calendar. We will also ensure that the calendar has a balance of male and female entrepreneurs (to the Kiva ratios), and business areas / activities. In the same vain it would be desirable to have a mix of photos that include groups of people. All of the winners from the first round have come through, as have some runners up (where the voting was close - within 10%), and a different photo for Kem Pharin (because I messed up - apologies). To improve the mix the 4 entrepreneurs previously lumped into the Rest of the World Category have also come through so that we have 19 countries represented. There are 28 photos in all 11 Male - though only 3 won their previous poll 17 Female 23 photos show an individual 5 show a group (2 or more) There are five main business areas covered: Agriculture (4), Crafts (3), Manufacturing (5), Repairs (3), and Retail (13) - though the retail areas are quite varied and include food manufacture, fruit & veg sales, general stores and supply stores. As before the entrepreneur's name links to their Kiva profile, while the image links to the largest sized photo available (between 0.5 and around 2MB). |

These are all such wonderful pictures, so representative of so many of the entrepreneurs we've all come to know through Kiva! Well done, folks, in choosing a great set of finalists (although I miss a few that didn't make it into the finals, as I'm sure we all do).
In trying to decide which to vote for in Round 2, I had a couple observations I wanted to pass along.
-- As much as I like the group nature of the photo for Komlan's carpentry studio, I have to admit that it looks.... posed. It's unlikely they'd be acting as they are, all together like that, in the normal course of operations. I guess I prefer the more candid photos (and since we have another carpenter maybe Philip is a better choice). Just my personal preference.
-- I also looked long and hard at Kem and The in their boats, and ultimately decided that while the photo of Kem is gorgeous, it does not represent her "at work" quite so well as The's photo does. Since we probably don't need two boat pictures, I'll probably pick The's photo and not Kem's.
It's hard to make that final set of choices! I'm trying to keep gender appropriately balanced, go for a mix of business types and locations, and they're all so wonderful and deserving! Good luck, everyone, with your decisions, and I'm sure it will be gorgeous however it ends up.
(And THANKS to the folks who have worked so well together at a distance in pulling this together!)

I thought this was meant to be both the voting thread and a comments thread, but I'd be happy to move my comment somewhere else if people think they should be kept separate? (In Round 1 people were commenting directly in the country voting threads, hence my assumption.) Sorry if that was impolite of me.... !

Christopher, great job summing everything up for this poll. I thought I was going to have to sift through and see how many we had of each business, male vs female, etc etc....so personally saved me some time and its great info to have. I was thinking of suggesting of splitting up the poll men for one and women for another, after we determine what we want the female/male ratio to be....that way we wouldnt have a problem with that, but then I was thinking we might get duplicates from a single country, one man and one woman, and one of those two would have to go anyways, so it would be the same problem as the male/female ratio, only it would be an issue instead pertaining to proportion of countries.
I just placed my votes, wasnt too hard this time around, I think I voted primarily based on my favorite pics, but I did take into account culture and region, especially when it came to a couple western hemisphere pics which I chose to mix it up a little. I think I had a nice variety of everything except gender. I wont say what I had right now, but it was quite disproportionate.
Christopher just a suggestion...if we see 38-40 votes after a day or two, maybe wed want to consider shortening the poll...reason being is that this was the number we saw in all the preceding polls just concluded. It might save us a day or two of waiting, but use your best judgment. If you dont see any voting lets say for a significant period of time, maybe 16 or 24 hours, then I think it might be best to wrap it up.

My only solace is that I find a peaceful place where I might be resigned to my depriving loneliness.

The only problem with closing the poll early is that it was advertised for being open for five days, and some people may think they have that long!
On another matter, I guess I don't see the rationale for having to include group pictures (though I voted for one). Overall, I voted for best photos.

Thats true Dottie, but the past polls for pics all stated they were ending at various times monday, tuesday, and wednesday and we ended up closing them all out Monday, which was the original plan of course. I just want to get started on these write ups, early october is not far off. But thats why I said if there is no activity for a day maybe its not worth holding out until the end of the week for the poll to end. Either way we have lots to do.
