Jacob,

You have expressed my feelings about the whole thing so eloquently.  I came on this strand to see what would be said.  As a straight female, I wanted to be accepting and welcoming to those who live a different life style.  It is nice to see the idea of reaching out coming right back.  It is very disarming to be charming!

Colette

I heard about Kiva from a co-worker.

As for loaning to gay individuals, I would encourage you to continue to keep your focus broad when it comes to lending.

The best way the gay community can continue to break down barriers around homosexuality is by showing our support and commitment to social responsibility across the globe, especially where it would be least expected, and including those places where it may even be unwelcome...

Hey guys,

Good points, and I certainly wouldn't only lend to someone I thought was gay/lesbian.  One of our current loans is to an Iraqi carpenter, someone very different culturally, industrially, and I'm guessing sexually from us.  But it would be nice to have a few in the mix, just the same.

My boyfriend and I are gay; here's our profile : http://www.kiva.org/lender/TylerandJames

I don't especially like our profile picture, though it's one of his favorites. I'm on the right, he's on the left.

     Hey TylerMorgan,
     I just saw your post
and then went and looked at your Lender Page and picture.
I think it's great.
Just wanted to celebrate you for being Aware and Awake and Other-Concerned
at such a young, ordinarily pretty self-centered age.

Your parents or someone or.... maybe just you guys(?) must have done something right.

Welcome to the Forum, TylerMorgan!  Welcome I followed Jill's advice and checked your web site.  I think the photo is great, as is your explanation of why you are a Kiva lender.

Wow--that's really an indictment of many countries.  I can only hope things become more "enlightened" in the future.

That's quite a list, Henry.  Shocked

A former Canadian prime minister, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, said that the government has no place in the bedrooms of the nation.  Seems sensible.

Welcome TylerMorgan.  Your smiling faces on your Lender page is quite charming! Kiss

Thanks !  I'd have to agree on the self-centeredness of many people my age; I suppose that's why we don't see many younger lenders on Kiva. I'd have to give credit to some of my teachers, as well as my parents for how I turned out  Laugh

Thank you; in fact, thank you everyone who welcomed me to this board, this seems like a nice community.
