TylerMorgan,
I'm embarrassed to say I didn't welcome you as well--so I'll welcome you now! And I want to say I agree with everything Jill, Glenda, and Odette said! Smiley

Welcome TylerMorgan.

Have you introduced Kiva to any of those teachers who tell you there is nothing you can do for the poor? Welcome

I have. Last year, when I discovered Kiva, I was researching a project, for a class taught by a teacher who didn't believe that people in the United States could have much control over poverty in the rest of the world, other than choosing what goods we buy, etc. I happened to be researching the Grameen bank, when I stumbled across Kiva via google.
Also, since I'm in my senior year of high school and required to do a large research project for graduation, I'll be researching the topic of microfinance and Kiva much more in depth. My project will be presented to a panel of teachers at the end of the year.

Thank you so much! Late is definitely better than never  Grin

Did any of the teachers sign up to lend through Kiva?

Welcome Tyler and James!

Jacob

Oh, and the photo looks great! Smiley

My boyfriend and I are gay; here's our profile : http://www.kiva.org/lender/TylerandJames

I don't especially like our profile picture, though it's one of his favorites. I'm on the right, he's on the left.

You have our support - and friendship - and we jumped onto your team if that's ok?
and thanks for bringing this thread back to the top...
as a relatively new (April 08) KF, I haven't read all the back posts.

I am sure the GLBT folks in the developing world are dealing with poverty plus discrimination in many ways.  Lets hope some of the Kiva loans are helping them with their dignity and self-respect.
