We hope to continue to add to my Kiva investments over time, and to reinvest in additonal folks around the world as our current loans are paid back.  We love the idea of Kiva!

At one point I thought we'd let our current loans repay and then re-lend, but I can see I am not disciplined enough for that strategy.  (Ha.)  I can see that not only will we re-lend, but we'll add more into the mix.

Peace

I currently have $100 in Kiva credit, but just can't find the loans that interest me to reinvest at the moment.
Am thinking of donating it straight to Kiva, or generating a few gift certificates for friends at Christmas if loans are not forthcoming.

Yesterday I found an 8-mo. loan to Manuela Bustamante in Peru (which is a location I like to support) who "makes works of art in the kitchen", and who operates "the best small eatery in Juliaca" who was looking to expand.  And a 6-mo. loan to Juana María Otañez who makes mosquito netting in the Dominican Republic.  I found both of these pretty attractive.

I would also be curious to hear some thoughts about Richard's question: what would make a loan interesting for you if it appeared today?

What mix of loans has to continue, long-term, for you to be moved to re-lend?

I believe we addicts have become rather picky as far as loans are concerned...I notice that with myself. In the beginning, I wasn't picky at all. The latest three loans have been more consciuos. In my view it stems from being on Kiva everyday and having seen some WONDERFUL loans (book stores, ballets etc., water pumps). Many others do look not as interesting compared to these few truly OUTSTANDING. That might be a reason why it becomes harder to find THE loan you want to fund...

Just my thoughts...

Just a guess on my part, but I also wonder if those of you who have been heavily involved in the calendar might have in your mind pictures of the BEST, MOST INTERESTING Kiva borrowers - perhaps a very-difficult-to-beat yardstick by which you judge the current crop?  Or maybe the calendar work is more interesting right now than lending is?

You have been doing a GREAT job, by the way.  I produce a calendar of my own each year based on our travels, and I know how VERY time-consuming it is, and how difficult to select the photos.  I admire your efforts.

Safe travels,
Laurie

I would prefer to support someone who makes, creates or grows something, or to loan towards something that allows them to get added value from such.  I don't care how long the loan is for.

In recent times I probably have not invested enough time in browsing through the listings - as I have been wanting to ensure I am not taking up loans when their are lots of new lenders about.  I also want to diversify my loans to countries I have not yet supported.

I am not interested that much in home improvement loans, I would prefer to support businesses so that entrepreneurs can invest in their home, children's education, business development etc.  Though I would probably support and educational loan for someone to get through a high grade of education (collage / university).

I am also not that interested in retail - which I find makes up a large proportion of loans (particularly from some countries).

Perhaps my mind has been on other things, and I probably am getting more picky...
