Congratulations to everyone on the WCG team!  Hat Wave

We have just passed 25 years of run time.  In a nutshell that means our computers as a collective have been working for 25 years toward projects that should benefit society.

  Cheerleader Good show everyone! Cheerleader

The next upcoming project is "The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2", where our computers will be working on designing more efficient and economical solar panels.  I like the sound of this one, but you can also choose to continue work on Curing Cancer, Muscular Dystrophy, Aids, or Human Proteome Folding.  My computers will be pulling from all projects that are available.

We welcome anyone who chooses to help!

FYI, as of this writing, the Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 (CEP2) will only run on Linux machines, and you must specifically opt in to this project, as it has higher processing requirements than most other WCG projects.  (Windows/Mac will come sometime, but not yet.)

Yea, I got a batch of the Beta Testing units for the Clean Energy Project (for windows), they all ran successfully, so I would expect them out within the next week or so.

Glad to have you on board David, every extra computer helps.  Thank You

Computer theft solved thanks to BOINC

The thief could not have anticipated this when stealing the iMac 27 of our member CR62! The stolen computer was running the BOINC software which does not only support scientific projects but, as it turns out, is also a useful anti theft protection installation.

The iMac which was stolen from the office around 3am on August 25th was already contacting the BOINC project WUProp the next day to transfer data. The thus copied IP address was given to the police who consequently applied for a search warrant and managed to secure the iMac by September 2th.

In response to the latest success of the BOINC project Einstein@Home where volunteers donate their unused computer time to search for pulsars and gravitational waves it should be said that:
Not only was a Pulsar found but now also an iMac!!

For anyone interested, we just received this email...

Quote
As you might know, World AIDS Day has been established to draw attention to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Millions are suffering from this disease.

Since November 2005, World Community Grid has had the great opportunity to support the innovative research underway at The Scripps Research Institute to advance the discovery of drugs which have the potential to treat and perhaps prevent the viruses involved in AIDS. This is the "FightAIDS@Home" that many of you run every day on your laptops and PCs for World Community Grid, helping us make progress against this horrible disease.

For World AIDS Day, we are honored to be hosting a live webcast with Dr. Alex Perryman from The Scripps Research Institute, where he will provide an overview and an update about the FightAIDS@Home project. The webcast will be on December 1, 2010, and it will start at 3:00PM Eastern Standard Time (USA) which is 20:00 Coordinated Universal Time.

The visual on the webcast will be a presentation and the voice will be Dr. Perryman. Time permitting, you will be able to ask questions via a text chat interface and Dr. Perryman will try to answer them.

The webcast will start promptly at 3:00PM Eastern Standard Time (USA) which is 20:00 Coordinated Universal Time. Please join a few minutes early so that you're sure not to miss anything.

Access to the webcast is via this link: https://apps.lotuslive.com/meetings/join?id=4122802

You can check if your computer is ready for the webcast at this link: https://www.conferenceservers.com/browser?brand=LLENGAGE_EN-US

And whether or not you can join the web cast, make sure your laptop, PC or Mac is running World Community Grid, and let your friends know this easy way to participate in World AIDS Day!

Thank you,

The World Community Grid Team
