For some reason (which now pretty much eludes me - possibly sparked by helping Jundee with his list of lender countries), I thought it might be interesting to find out which States in the USA have the highest concentrations of Kiva lenders.

So, by a process of relentless Googling and Wikipedia-ing and Excel-ing, I now have a list of the 50 states, ranked according to number of Kiva lenders per million of each state's population.

Rather than just post the results, I thought it would be fun to have a prize competition
And the competition is....
for a ranking based on the number of Kiva lenders per million population
pick the 5 states you think are at the top of the ranking list, in the order 1st to 5th
&
pick the 5 states you think are at the bottom, in the order 46th to 50th.

Rules:

1 entry each
1 point for a top/bottom 5 correct pick, and 1 point for correct position - maximum score 20
Competition closes October 9th, 5pm Eastern.
Whoever gets the most points gets a $25 Kiva gift voucher from me
(edit: or can nominate a $25 loan for me to make, if not comfortable with the idea of my giving them a gift voucher..)
In the event of a tie, a playoff will be held  Grin

Some random facts without giving too much away...   The highest ranked state has 11 times more Kivans per million of population than the lowest ranked.  The 3 most populous states are also the highest ranked in terms of absolute numbers of Kiva lenders.   Vermont has almost exactly the same number of Kiva lenders as Switzerland.  If Canada was a US state, it wouldn't be at the bottom of the ranking.

     Cool

I just edited the opening post to say that if anyone is not comfortable with being given a $25 gift voucher (which would involve sharing your email address), they can instead nominate a $25 loan for me to make.  This is just a bit of fun... P

I have a question.   Scratch Head

Since you are using per million population, what if a state, such as Wyoming only has about 450,000 people living there?  How would you rank this state?   Undecided

Many of the western states do not have a million people living there, unless you count tourists, bikers as in Sturgis Bike Rally, etc.
