Very interesting, Richard!

Some of these might not have opened raising funds yet: Somaiya and Anesha for example.

On the other hand I am puzzled by the closed status of KSF. I have a loan with them and it repays on time. Also their stats don't indicate any problems. There must be other reasons for that...

Oli, I believe this lack of explanation for most of these closed Field Partners reflects a lack of transparency.  This is counter to one of Kiva's stated intentions.

Might well be, Richard...it'd also explain why they only have a one star rating despite their good performance financially. Huh?

SEED - kenya is also closed,

I have a "delinquent" loan through them which has not been paid on since Sept 2nd, half way through a 6-month loan. Neither the loan page, nor the SEED page indicate why this is so, or if it is accurate, why it is not a default. I think I'll e-mail Kiva and see what they say.

I also have a SEED loan which stopped paying on Sept. 2, halfway through a 6-month loan.  I wrote to SEED about a week ago, after the client missed a third payment, but (of course) have heard nothing in return.  If you hear anything from Kiva I would be very interested to know.

It's funny: this delinquent loan was my *VERY FIRST KIVA LOAN*.  I'm sorry to think that one might be my first actual default.

As for the Gaza field partner, Shuresh, the closure is due to the terrible political situation there. Shortly after I joined Kiva, in January 2007, there was a final journal post from the field representative (I looked it up under the Lend column : searched for "Gaza" and "refunded"):
    "Dear Kiva Lender:
I am sorry to tell you that no repayments were actually paid in the Kiva program, because the situation in Gaza is very difficult these days. Our staff couldn't reach our office in Gaza because of the clashes fight between Fateh and Hammas over the past week. Over the past month, all the shops and workshops have been closed and the situation is very dangerous in Gaza streets as over 60 person were killed last month. I called our staff at their houses and heard the sound of explosions and bullets during our conservation on the telephone.
We just wait to see what the situation will be in Gaza. We hope it will be calm next month, but at the same time, we are not optimistic.
You can't imagine how very bad the situation is. I know it's a black picture, but we hope it will change.
Best,
Basil"

Thats funny you mention that Diane, because my first ever loan, back in Nov 2006, also ended without being fully repaid...it was a refunded WITEP loan...good to see it doesnt stop us and others though.

As for SEED, I mentioned in my "report" of the Washington, D.C. meet-up in late October that Premal said--when I asked about SEED--that there was some sort of legal issue--which he didn't understand at that point--as to why the repayments stopped, but he thought in the end we would get all our money back.  I haven't heard anything about SEED since then, however, and I was thinking of questioning Kiva as well.

Shouldn't we add HOPE (D R Congo) and ACODE (Chad) to the list. They haven't offered new loans in months and all loans are repaid. Re Congo, it's a pity, I worked there for 3 1/2 years and would be happy to join in the effort there.
