Because of my name (artlover11), Jill, Henry and I were discussing paintings in another thread. Jill mentioned it would be nice to have a place here on Kiva Friends where we could share our favorite paintings. A great place to search for favorites is the Artchive, http://www.artchive.com/ftp_site.htm but don't be put off by all the pop-ups! This is my favorite painting: Oh, and my real name is Nicole. Nice to meet everyone! http://www.kiva.org/lender/nicole6421

Hi Nicole, that is a lovely piece of work. Below is a piece from one of my acquaintances who's not with us anymore, this one is on Ebay at the moment. Mose was a funny old black man when I first met him.... we would go to his house to purchase or look at paintings, he would be on or in his bed, sometimes he would walk around the house naked showing his art work, my sister told me the first time that happened, it's not uncommon. Nancy Regan put Moses Toliver on the map when she mentioned his work at some event, his work was then purchased by the galleries in the NE and sold for outrageous prices. Of course what they paid Moses wasn't anywhere near what they in turn sold them for. However, he did get his 15 minutes, and for a down to earth southern black man, I think he enjoyed them very much. Back to Chicago.... I would love a morning at the Art Institute followed by a Lou Malnatis Pizza would make my week at the moment!!! http://www.loumalnatis.com/

Hi Nicole - nice to meet you too! Glad you said "..or other forms of art"... this is one of my favourite photographs: ...a deservedly famous one, by Dorothea Lange: Migrant Mother; Nipomo, California, 1936. The story of the mother, Florence Owens Thompson, and how she came to be identified many years later, is here.

I like that picture, too, and I relate it to many of the pictures we see on Kiva. One of my favorite paintings is The Luncheon of the Boating Party by Renoir, but I don't know how to "import" it here! http://www.renoir.org.yu/painting.asp?id=165

The story of the mother, Florence Owens Thompson, and how she came to be identified many years later, is here. My word. She was only 32 in this photo! What a hard life she had. Thanks for sharing that Wiki link.

Renoir's The Boating Party. To import an image, go to the image and right click. Click on Properties. The URL for the image is in the middle of the box. Copy it. Go to your KivaFriends message box. Click on the Picture icon. Paste the URL between the brackets. Dottie B

Hmmm. . . . .there may be a process to make the picture smaller, but that exceeds my level of competence.

Interesting what you find when you look closely at these. I'm amused by the dog sitting on the table in Luncheon of the Boating Party, and the woman standing in the shade with a parasol in the Suerat!
