It made me think of Kiva, and as I listened I could see the accompanying Kiva video or photo montage taking shape..

A Nanci Griffith performance from around 1990 is
. Sound level is a bit low, you might need to turn your speakers up. Others have covered the song, including Bette Midler and The Byrds, but for me only Nanci Griffith cuts it.
Julie Gold's lovely song seems to me to fit the bill quite well, so I'll go with that as my suggestion.
Am I becoming sentimental in my old age? Probably. Do I care? Only a little...
