Hey - on a lighter note... Can I ask a silly question? What do the stars under your posting name mean? Some people have two stars... others have more.... Thankyou in advance!

No, that's not at all a silly question, Natasha What it is, the more people post, the more stars there are under their name 1 to 9 posts = 1 star 10 to 19 = 2 stars 20 to 39 = 3 stars 40 to 59 = 4 stars 60+ = 5 stars Joe and Diane (as in DianeCharlie) have spiffy extra big stars compared with us mere mortals , as he is Administrator and she is Moderator. Kiva Staffers automatically get 5 big stars. Peter

Thankyou so much Peter for letting me know, I had been wondering since I first logged on, as this is the first forum I have ever ventured into (usually I use the laptop & internet for much more mundane uses like work and study). As always Peter, you are a gentleman! Thankyou & Cheers, N

Got a question - for those of us who are signed in to Kiva Friends "indefinitely," are we always listed as "online" or only when we're actually clicked onto a page?

Hey Dottie
I think as long as you are logged onto the site you would appear as "online" whether you are active or not...the last page you were viewing would be the one that would show up on the list of kiva friends online.....for example....If I was viewing the topic "introductions" and walked away from the computer to eat dinner, watch tv and then returned....I would still be listed as "online" and "viewing the topic introductions" until I moved to another page.

I think Dottie's question is a little different, and I have also wondered about it. (Being a "moderator" doesn't give me any special knowledge here, LOL!) What I believe she's saying is that once, long ago, I logged into KivaFriends and told it not to log me out, so when I return to the site I do not have to enter my user name and password to see anything, I just come right into the site. And of course while I am actively browsing the site, I show up in the "Who's Online" list as viewing whatever page I am reading at the time. BUT. When I leave the site and move to some other website (or even shut my computer down entirely!), I suspect KivaFriends may still think I am "online" since I am still "logged in" (and I don't have to re-login when I return the next day), and so it may still show me in the "Who's Online" list as doing the last thing I was doing before I left the site.
I think this because I see lists of KivaFriends many pages long sometimes, showing the last activity for some folks as days ago. I am thinking that all these people probably did NOT walk away and leave their browser pointing at the KivaFriends site, so I suspect KivaFriends may leave us in the "online" set until we actively logout of KivaFriends (and then have to enter our password the next time we come back).
((Did that make sense to anyone else? It did to me, but that might not apply to everyone.))
Calling Joe, come in Joe....
--Diane.

The Who's Online list displays the most recent action of any user within the past twelve hours. Joe increased the size of that time-window a while back. The Time Online clock keeps ticking as long as a window or tab is displaying any Kiva Friends page. (Joe can stop by and tell us what's really going on between his latest secret enhancements projects!)

A related question - I generally try to log out when I leave this site, but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When I come back to the site, sometimes it asks me to log in and sometimes it's already open. Why

Well, for me, it's like this: once I log into KivaFriends, I stay logged in as long as I leave my laptop turned on. If I shut it down, I have to re-login when I use it again the next day...

Isn't it interesting how different folks are so different. I always log in with the "One Hour" option, and sometimes probably forget to log out. I assume it logs me out at the end of the hour whether I was there or not.
I noticed in my profile page it displays how many hours I've spent on Friends. For those of you who logged in "forever" are your hours the total real time since your first log in? Or is there in fact a log off when your browser closes or your computer is turned off?

Ok, I usually don't share personal information... but here are my stats: 6' tall 200 lbs ok..210 lbs 1299 post (the most) I show online 14 days, 14 hours and 24 minutes... I think more like 14 days, 14 hours and 18 minutes. created the top topic for views and replies mostly salt of salt and pepper hair. I hate salt and pepper hair, i've been going gray since I was 16, I think at 47 the gray's about won. But (looks around at all you no hair people) I've still got it!!!!! P.S. if you'r wife won't tell you, and for the good of this world! - combovers are OUT!

I'm logged in Forever, and in four months, I've logged over 4 days online, according to my profile. I'm still not sure what that counts, because I usually open a KivaFriends page every day and leave it open, but much of the time I'm actually in another window. So maybe it just counts the time I'm "active" on the KivaFriends page.

After a little more than 2 and a half months I have 3 days, 11 hrs. 32 min. I am usually logged on forever except when I clean up my computer and then visit as a guest instead of logging in.
