Thanks for sharing this, Jane!

Indeed that's a very sad story, and I feel for the borrower (and for KivaFellow Teresa). On the other hand, I have to admit that I can understand CREDIT's policy, and don't blame them for their decision (one would hope, though, that these problems could be solved by means of early communication).

Best wishes,
Wolfgang.

Sometimes it is really hard to find the line between right and wrong.
Thank you, Jane, for sharing!

Jane,
That is very sad for this family.  One wonders during the loan process how clear it was made to these borrowers what should happen to the money if the original reason for the loan can not be fulfilled.  What options they have and a grace period be made for return i.e. one  month for circumstances  such as this.  I can understand why these policies are in place.  I tried the link that Teresa provided but could not get it to work.   Thanks for sharing,  Bernice

I was able to get the links to work by cutting and pasting them, not just by clicking on them.

On a separate note, I have a journal entry in french.  Can anyone translate better than Google?  Wink

Google says this means:
"AMALAO Achiomé wages obtained a loan with which she has to buy school supplies for resale, this trade has worked well for her during the holidays and the back, which allowed him later to make some money. this trade does not work as well which is why it is associated with the sale of food, she thinks to ask another credit at the beginning of next. wages and she thanked all Kiva lenders."

This doesn't seem too bad, but is still wanting in terms of nuances of the meaning.  Does anyone speak french?  I will post the translation to the journal entry http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=67736

Thanks!

Charity,
it is quite ambitious for me to even try, especially since there are some bilingual lenders from Canada active here.
Still, I like the challenge... better than Google?... I hope so...

"AMALAO Achiomé obtained a loan from WAGES with which she has bought school supplies for resale. This business went well for her during the school holidays and for the beginning of the school year so that she has been able to save some money. Since then, though, business has been slow which is why she has also taken up selling food. She considers to ask for another loan for the start of the next school year. She thanks WAGES and all Kiva lenders."

Best wishes,
Wolfgang.

Only one at a time, Jane. Wink And who knows - maybe I was completely off with my translation.

Take care,
Wolfgang.

Thank you for the translation Wolfgang!  I will go post it in the comments section so others can benefit!
Also, I wanted to share something I just found:
Last July I commented on a disbursal message from Lebanon as follows:

"I am so happy to hear that this loan has been disbursed to Hassan. I wish him and his sister all the best over the coming months. I also wanted to thank the Akutwala Ekiro Womens Group in Uganda, who repaid thier loan on time and enabled me to reloan the money to Hassan and his sister!

Happening to look there again, I found the following response from the MFI in Lebanon!:

"Dear Charity,
I loved the spirit if your message... This is exactly what we always tell our borrowers: repay your loans on-time so that someone else can benefit from the lending facilities :-)
So thanks to you and thanks to the group of women in Uganda...
Kind regards
Alia

Grin It definitely makes the world seem like a smaller place Smiley

I haven't posted a journal comment like that in a while, at least in part because of the new repayment system.  But really, the theory is the same.  If I am reloaning funds, I could just look at my excel sheet every month and see who made the final payment on their loan that month, and they would be the ones to thank! Smiley
