This image of Mohammad Zahar Hashimi would be an excellent candidate if the cloudiness could be removed.  I love the depth and color.

What are the actual minimum pixel dimensions we need for the calendar?

Dottie B

...
Further clarification of the requirements is probably buried somewhere in that 57 page thread   Huh?
...

yes, I found Christopher's photo quality & size guidelines in the 2008 calendar thread:
http://www.kivafriends.org/index.php/topic,988.msg8748.html#msg8748

Quote
- at least 800 x 600 - once you have found the image look in the address bar of your browser and replace w800 with orig to find the largest sized image available
- sharp (in focus, no blurring)
- balanced contrast / even colour levels
- can be cropped if needed
- no distractions (stray people, objects, dates on images - which can't be cropped out)

Thanks for finding the info in the other thread Peter.

In the end we settled for anything better than 1024x768 - which were *just* large enough to use in the format in the 2008 calendar.

A KivaFriend sent me some nominations for possible calendar pictures (feel free to jump right in and identify yourself here!), and although they're all wonderful shots, some of them are much too small to be useable, most likely.  I'll link to a few of them here.

Rodrigo Janeta and his wife and vegetables were cited in the Best Smiles thread also:

Maria Lopez Lopez and her co-borrowers show their embroidery proudly (this photo may be a little cloudy):

And in the "probably too small but maybe for a collage" category, we have:

Ablavi Tiassou whose manekins are amazing on the wall behind her:

and Ali Shoukair whose photo has the tones of an oily cloth from the shop.

Hey Diane, Smiley

Not sure how to how to check to see whether this photo "makes the grade", in terms of calendar quality. But here is one of my favourite photos. I like this one because of the graffiti on the wall behind her. To me, it reminds me of some of the UN Millennium Goals and why I support Kiva.

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=25288 Rebecca Arthur in Ghana...apparently raking in $200 profit per week...doesnt specify if that is USD or if this amount was mistakenly labeled as "profit" instead of "sales"--just sounds like an incredible amount--enough to almost put her above the US poverty line...maybe thats why shes smiling so much!!!

I find not direction in the readings of those with whom my eccentricities are similar, but rather validation.

My only solace is that I find a peaceful place where I might be resigned to my depriving loneliness.

Here's another calendar candidate!

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=25226

The orginal at   http://kiva.s3.amazonaws.com/img/orig/87977.jpg  is HUGE!

Dottie B

[Edit: Something's weird here. The first time I checked the original, it was much larger than it is now!]

Here's another! (I discovered the best way to find great pictures is to start on Kay's lender page!)  Laugh

The original fits the specifications. http://kiva.s3.amazonaws.com/img/orig/88351.jpg

Another excellent photo from Ghana, the original is huge and just look at the detail of the marketplace around her.  (Those balls are soap balls, which are said to be able to combat any laundry stain!)

This is Abena Badu the soapmaker from Mankessim, Ghana.  (Be sure to look at the original photo using the bottom link.)
