Hello RichardF,
My Grade 6 students and I have been active in the KIVA movement since August 29th. Thank you for posting the name of our group on your page.
I have just begun to correspond with Jill, Natasha, Steve and others in the Education forum and I posted my first KIVA related lesson plan there about half an hour ago. I see a lot of great brainstorming and ideas flying around and I was wondering whether you are planning at any time to put up a collection of lesson plans and ideas in a more durable format that is easier for teachers to use? Something like the Wikipedia articles, for instance?
Thank you for the fine work you are doing,

Greetings Richard,
I am wondering whether another section on the Education Connections page might be links to articles that specifically discuss the uses of KIVA in the education field. I am thinking not only of the mainstream media (of which some good ones are mentioned in the other Kiva Friends thread) but also articles appearing in the education press.
1. One example of this:
http://www.news.uiuc.edu/news/07/0424lenders.html
2. Another example would be articles written in school board magazines.
3. A last example I can think of would be school websites if they highlight KIVA in a special way.
The reason I suggest this, is that the ideas and language in these articles might help teachers when they're trying to get started and to decide how to present KIVA to others.
If you decide to do this I volunteer to try the links every week to see if they still work!

P.S. If we did this we would probably need a little blurb explaining what link is about.

Evelyn,

I started with a minimalist approach that always can be expanded later. I added Students become micro-lenders, assisting entrepreneurs around world to the Kiva Friends Press coverage section. Then I added those links to the Education Connections section on Kiva Friends Discussions. That way, we don't have to worry about links disappearing.  If we actually come up with new content, such as ways to use press coverage, like you mentioned, then we can start another section.
Feel free to add content like that here or there.  I alway can reformat it if you're still getting the hang of that.  Wink

Hello Richard,
I thank you for organizing the new section.  I know that if I had access to these articles when first considering the use of KIVA in the classroom, it would have inspired me.
Three proposed links
In the existing press coverage forum I found two of Joe's links that I think would be good for the Education Connections section:
1.   The potential of homeroom - Caller Times

Here's a cool article where Kiva is one of the activities in a classroom in Corpus Christi.

3. I posted a link to The New Digital History blog - not a long article but still an impressive source for social studies teachers are thinking about KIVA!

Hi, I posted the first two links on the Education Connections page, but I don't really know what/if you want me to do something with the third item.

The New Digital History
Education

I saw the 11/28/07 Kiva posting by Joel Ralph and the Kiva listing banner.  Then what?  Huh?

OOps !!!
Please ignore this message as I've already posted the information. Sorry!

Richard,
Forgive my lack of link-literacy!
I had found an article in the the "New Digital Education" blog and I thought that a link would be to that specific article. I now realize that the link goes to the site in general and the information is constantly changing.
I will put the correct information in the PRESS Section and make a link later to the Kivapedia page when I get a chance to try your instructions..
Thanks again,
Evelyn
