It was excruciating last night, making loans and watching the Australian Team Loan Count stuck at 59,904 loans, but happy to say

Well Done to the Australian Lending Team who have hit the milestone of 60,000 loans (60,210 loans as at 6.50am Australian EST) before Australia Day!

Today I am excited to hit a big milestone for me in my Kiva Account!  If you want, please join me in lending to Saleh, a 32 year old stationary store owner in Iraq: http://www.kiva.org/lend/395358

Today I made what for me is a very special loan, for a number of reasons: my loan number 5555.

It is from one of the most exemplary Kiva field partners, Pro Mujer Bolivia, features a group of women, and has one of the most evocative photos I've seen in a long time, showing strong, capable women, some in hats and some with babies, and encouraging signs from the MFI on the wall behind them ("Do you want to improve your life?").  I've linked to a large version of the picture which you can see by clicking on the photo below.  I would be pleased to have other KivaFriends join me on this loan, which I have credited to the KivaFriends.org team, in honor of all the good and great things KivaFriends has done and means to me.  Well done, everyone, and thank you!

--Diane.

Brillantes Estrellas
10 women, $4,400 ($2,300 remaining right now), 9 months from Pro Mujer Bolivia, no currency risk.
"The women have various businesses in trade, production, and services such as braiding blankets, selling sweaters, selling fruit, managing a grocery store, selling vegetables, and making sportswear."

Confetti Flowers   Congratulations on your 5555th loan, Diane!  (I tried to join it, but it's fully funded now.)  Thanks for your help to the borrowers, and for your service to this forum as moderator and contributor!

Diane, the Pro Mujer loan you chose having been fully funded while I was off line, I made this loan, in celebration/solidarity of your 5555th loan.  It's credited to team KivaFriends.  Mazel tov!

Diane,

Poverty 2 Prosperity also made some loans to Pro Mujer to celebrate your big event.  Oh, and a belated Women's Day as well.
