My husband and I like to lend to the Central and South America regions...however, this morning when I got an email informing me that my first loan was repaid in full I search for others "IN NEED" in Central and South America and to my surprise there were only 2 people....
Am I doing the search wrong? Why aren't there more people in those areas "in need"? If I remember correctly, when we first joined kiva there were several in Central and South America.
Thanks

It doesnt appear you are doing anything wrong at all Penny...I just checked and there were no loans available for those two areas....guess you will just have to keep checking until they post some new ones....and WELCOME to Kiva Friends.

I agree with QueensofHearts.  There does seem to be a batching process of the loans starting with the MFI's.  The best thing is to just check periodically and then grab the ones you want.  There will be more loans sooner or later as the Kiva staff and volunteers work through the batches.

I have noticed that the loans are fewer on Sundays and Mondays, and seem to be hopping by mid-late week.  Don't know how accurate my observations are, they are just that, personal observations.

Plus with Kiva being on Oprah last Thursday, lots of new lenders signed up over the weekend, decreasing the loan availability even more.

So I agree, just have patience and keep checking!!   Coffee

Yes, on Thanksgiving day here in the U.S. Oprah aired the show about 'giving' that introduced Bill Clinton's book of the same name, along with interviewing Matt & Jessica Flannery, creators of Kiva since Bill Clinton dedicates a chapter in his book on Kiva.  It originally aired in September.

I timed it, from the first mention of Kiva on the show, it only took eleven minutes for Kiva to crash where you got the message "Please be patient with us, we were recently mentioned on television, so are having a high rate of traffic, please come back or send us your email so we can let you know when we are back up" (or something similar).

By the way, I sent my email, and have yet to be notified that the website is back up!  Plus I haven't gotten any receipts from my donations that I made over the weekend.  Bet they are delightfully backlogged.

Ah! That explains it. I couldn't figure out why the daily total of loans funded have been about twice what it normally is.

I had seen the Oprah show with Kiva and President Clinton back in September. Didn't know that they had re-run it last week.

Thanks for the information.

Hi, I just have a quick question!
I joined Kiva yesterday (After watching Oprah on Thanksgiving!) and made my first loan! I then came on today and made another loan to somebody else but only the first loan is in my portfolio?
Does it take a while for your portfolio to be updated or did I do something wrong? I got the paypal reciept so I know that the money went through!
I am new to this so I am not sure how the website works so if anyone knows anything about this, that would be great!!
Thanks

Hi and Welcome to KIVAFriends Sammy!

I like the America's to lend in also.  But have found it's generally the photo and loan description that ends up being the reason I pick a loan.   And sometimes when it's a KIVAFriend suggested loan as well.

Now, since you've posted this in the "Am I doing something wrong" topic, well....  it's not really wrong, but prepare yourself for the KIVA Addiction that's coming!!!!!! Laugh Cheesy Laugh
