How many of you guys have read Muhammad Yunus' "Banker to the Poor" book?  Just curious about your impressions of that one as well...I read it last week and without elaborating too much it was a phenomenal story to say the least.

I find not direction in the readings of those with whom my eccentricities are similar, but rather validation.

My only solace is that I find a peaceful place where I might be resigned to my depriving loneliness.

There's a good piece about Mortenson's work in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

I read it and recommend it HIGHLY and there's a thread for discussing microfinance books at http://www.kivafriends.org/index.php/topic,377.0.html

Thanks for posting that Dottie, EXCELLENT article.  Can't wait to read the book . . . and find more Kiva loans for education!

I liked the African saying they quoted: "If you educate a boy you educate an individual, but if you educate a girl you educate a community."

You can support Mortenson's work through the Central Asia Institute, http://www.ikat.org/

(They're also selling a calendar.)  Smiley

Thanks to everyone for the recommendation.  We have ordered the book.  Sounds like a winner!  It should help with our other addiction.

There's a list of his 2008 speaking engagements on his website at http://www.threecupsoftea.com/BookTour2008.php

I'm hoping to catch him in Charlotteslivve, VA, in March.

The home page is at www.ikat.org. It's about as easy to navigate as Kiva.  Wink

Folks who've read "Three Cups of Tea" might want to read Greg's article in Parade magazine about the earthquake in Pakisan two years ago.
