I saw Diane and Charlie. Their profile image popped up on the screen along with a bunch of others (anyone else we know?) while the reporter was talking about how regular people around the world are coming together to make those loans.

On a related note, that Second Life story that was at the beginning of the show was interesting. I think that virtual world is utterly ridiculous at times, but with all the real money flowing through there, you can see why we're working to get Kiva a virtual office and why Julia is always updating the Kiva in Second Life thread. Wink I think it's amazing that the one woman started a virtual clothing store for $500 and makes something like $1600 a week off it. Incredible.

The Kiva site is back up for me as well.

What a great segment! And I love looking at the territory surrounding the borrowers.

The Second Life stuff is weird! I can see businesses using it to sell stuff, I just can't understand anyone buying anything there! Real money for virtual things. That means for nothing! Huh?

Don't mean to offend, and if anyone wants to try to explain why they'd do that, I'll listen.

Well!  Looks as if tonight was not the night to go pick Charlie up at the airport!  Wink  Luckily I had TiVO'd the Business Nation segment, and WOW, was it ever good!  And shucks yes, that was us in the upper right in the set of lenders, sure enough! Whoo!  (Jill, thanks for the compliment, I really like that photo of us, too.)

So have any of you lent to any of the borrowers who were profiled?  We are lenders to Naiyare Nongepa and three other Maasai women who are her neighbors.  Anyone in on the pastor and his beans and farm, or the bicycle taxi driver and his wife's restaurant?

Another exciting opportunity for Kiva!

As of 7:23 am Austin Texas time, the Kiva site was up with 56 loans and a variety of countries.

Thank you Joe for posting the link to the CNBC site!!

It must be very exciting for those who are lenders and see how their borrowers are progressing.  Although we are not lenders to anyone shown on the program, we did find it very encouraging to see that the loans had actually made a real difference in their lives.  So nice to hear confirmation that the system is working.

 Ok! Thumbs Up

I added this comment last night to Naiyare Nongepa's disbursement journal entry. I wonder if she will ever see it or be told of it?  Smiley

Naiyare, we saw you tonight on television in the USA! Your interview with the television reporter for CNBC's "Business Nation" show was aired, and we were SO HAPPY to see you and your neighbors were doing so well with your loans. We thank you for your regular payments, and we wish you and your family well. And we are happy that we are partnering with a television star!

Hi All:

So glad you all enjoyed the CNBC piece - wasn't it AMAZING!!!  Shout out to John Larson (correspondent) who had an amazing vision of the story he wanted to tell, making the entrepreneurs he loaned to on the website come to life on the screen, and to Wally Griffith (producer) who worked TIRELESSLY on researching, coordinating and making the piece happen!!!  Last night we definitely saw the amazing results of their hard work.

Thanks for the birthday wishes!!  I had a wonderful day yesterday, which was topped off by watching "Business Nation" during my lovely birthday dinner at home.  Couldn't have been a better day :-)

Oh, that was WONDERFUL! I am fighting back tears. I know intellectually that when we make a loan, we're giving someone a chance at a better life, but to actually see it in action is incomparable.

I am humbled by this opportunity.
