What a wonderful loan! http://www.kiva.org/lend/178910 María Mercedes Pizarro Salas was born in the municipality of Santo Tomás, department of Atlántico, where she still lives and enjoys the affection of its inhabitants; they call her “La Seño” (short for “Señora” or “Señorita”; commonly associated with a teacher but with respect and affection) because of the great number of children that have participated in her school project and are now adults, professionals, parents who continue use her nickname as when they were children. To her, Santo Tomas is a municipality of people willing to help each other and even outsiders; they like festivals and that is why they have the Carnaval Intermunicipal del Atlántico that integrates the entire Department; but beyond dancing, the “Tomasino” (as people from Santo Tomas are called) is a human being who likes to study and has great capacity to improve herself or himself. María Mercedes has a facility next to her house where she takes care and prepares children to get through pre-kinder, kinder, and transition period; she also conducts activities to reinforce and compliment the work of students brought by their parents; the students are coached to exceed their school achievements through guided work. She had not finished high school when she started this line of work, and she begun by helping the neighbor’s children without charging them, but they brought their own desks to sit on; little by little, with the level of progress achieved by these children, many “tomasina” mothers sought her services; for this reason and with their help, she decided to expand the classrooms and she equipped what are now 3 classrooms, where the children learn in a better space. In the interest of continuing to bring a better learning environment, she is requesting a loan of $2.000.000 that she will invest in improvements of her facilities, such as: plaster walls, change roof cover, accommodate ecological areas and buy inexpensive and healthy snacks for her children. Her mid-term dream is to expand the coverage and enter the educational system officially, for which she is preparing; even though she has no biological children, her calling as a mother and a teacher is completely dedicated to the children, and the ones in her school project are no exception. She stimulates the completion of the different levels by integrating the children with their parents through small ceremonies for fulfilled achievements, in which all participants feel happy with the progress, especially “La Seño”, as she is known by everybody in Santo Tomás.15 months loan from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, Colombia (4*), no currency risk

http://www.kiva.org/lend/180437?_tpos=1&_tpg=1 Digmelia, 47, lives with her husband, who is a teacher, and her children, who are now independent; this allows her to focus full-time on her business. " They are like my own children," she states when referring to the children that attend her child care center. This is because she has become so attached to them that she loves them as if they were her own. She tends to the center from 8am until 6pm; a period of time when many mothers leave their children with her to be cared for. They have several reasons for doing so: work, study, etc. So Dogmelia, very patiently and with much dedication, assited by two young employees, tends to the children initiating them into the learning process with various challenging games and readings. She enjoys her work very much and loves doing it. This is why she would like, in the future, to enlarge the space of her "Cuna-Escuela" so that she can house more children. This is Digmelia's 7th loan with MFP; she has never defrauded the institution. On the contrary, she has been very punctual with every one of her payments. Now, with the requested funds, she will buy some materials that she needs for her child care center so that the children will feel more comfortable. 14 months loan from Microfinanzas Prisma, Peru (5*), currency risk possible

This is the first time I've seen this Pro Mujer program posted on Kiva. Jesus Te Ama Jov Group, BoliviaAsociaciones Comunales de Jovenes is a work model developed by Pro Mujer a few years ago in order to support initiatives for the self-employment of young people. This credit is meant for groups of 4 or more young people that promise, along with their parents, to solidify their guarantee. These groups pay all together, along with adult associations that generally become like mentors to these young men and women. The communal association, "Jesus Te Ama," is composed of a group of 2 girls and 2 boys, who follow this plan. In the photo, there are the two boys with caps and the two girls with a blue and a white jacket. Omar Chambi Quispe is the president of the group of young people. He is 18 years old and has been a member for two loan cycles. He has a carpentry business that he has grown by partnering with his friend 5 years ago. Nowadays, he makes bed stands and bedside tables, which are his specialty. With his first loan of Bs1000 (he remembers having bought wood, now that his credit is Bs2000), he hopes to buy his own work tools: a hammer, a plane, and wood, his most important commodity. Finally, he states that what he likes most about Pro Mujer is spending time with the members of his group. This is the parent group

Nice to see someone who *has a dream*... http://www.kiva.org/lend/186421 Lilian Akinyi Odhiambo is 27 years old, married, and the mother of one child. After quitting her house help job, Lilian decided to venture into business selling vegetables in Nyalenda, Kisumu, Kenya. She started her business in 2006 to generate income and support her husband in providing for the family. Lilian dreams of expanding her trade so that she is able to buy a car for her business. For this reason, she decided to join the microfinance program of Kiva partner, K-MET, to expand her business knowledge. She is requesting a loan of 20,000 KES to increase her stock, with the hope of seeing her income grow. With her new profits, she hopes to build her own home, but this does not mean that her dream of buying a car has disappeared! 14 months loan from KMET, Kenya (only 2* but I personally love KMET), currency risk possible

In case you are still waiting to get in on a Sri Lankan loan, another has posted: Nayani Lakmali Nayani is 29 years old and lives with her husband, two daughters and two sons. Her husband is a driver and he helps her in her business. She works hard and places her priority on operating her business. Nayani's business involves preparing lunch packets containing rice and curry, which she has been doing for more than ten years. Currently, she prepares thirty lunch packets per day. There is strong competition in her area for selling lunch packets, but Nayani's husband helps her by delivering and selling them to customers at his place of work, which greatly helps the business. Nayani is seeking a 35,000 LKR loan from BRAC Sri Lanka which she will use to purchase new kitchen items. She hopes to expand her food delivery area and use the additional income to open her own food cafeteria. and this one for a new sewing machine http://www.kiva.org/lend/187576
