Ahmad Amro is an ambitious young man from Ramallah. He owns a gift and accessories store, where he stands in the picture above. His store is located in front of Al-Quds Open University of Ramallah. Ahmad is originally from Hebron. He moved to Ramallah to find a better job and ended up having this store.

Ahmad had always passion for books. Because his shop is in front of the university, he wanted to have a specialized books section in his store, and since he is financially tied, he came to FATEN and took a $3,000 loan for this purpose.

Ahmad is trying to have a variety of useful books to respond to all interests of university students. The new book section will fulfill his ambitions of having books in his store and will improve his financial situation.

27 months loan from FATEN, Palestine (3*), no CR

Everything you ever wanted to learn about the Mongolian horse-head fiddle and perhaps even a little bit more.   As always, Kiva offers us so incredibly much to learn and expand our minds with.  All we need to do is to want to…..

http://www.asiasociety.org/arts-culture/performing-arts/music/music-mongolia-everywhere

An excerpt from the above:

“….Can you talk a little bit about the horse-head fiddle and its Mongolian origins?

Horse-head fiddle is a traditional Mongolian instrument. The history is based on the legend of a man who had a horse. He loved this horse. It was the best horse. It was magical; it could fly and this man was always with his horse. An evil man killed the horse. And the man wanted to remember this horse and the relationship between horse and man. So when you hear this music you will hear horse sounds. This instrument is now created of wood and the strings are horse tail. Because of the climate and the humidity in the U.S., the strings we perform with here are not horse tail, but in Mongolia they are made of horse tail. Originally, the handle of the horse-head fiddle was made of horse ribs and the entire fiddle was made from horse parts. For example, this base is made of horse skin and this handle is made of horse ribs and the strings are made of tails and this head actually shows the horse….”

Kishmish Sardaryan is married and has two children. She lives in Ijevan city. She works at Ijevan Polyclinic as a nurse and, at the same time, she and her husband are engaged in beekeeping. Thanks to income from beekeeping they have kept their family, bought necessary furniture for their house and also organized their children’s weddings.

Jorge Luis Godoy is 31 years old, he is married and he assumes the role of community bank president. The group is made up of 7 members and they are all small business owners. Jorge is a clerk at a shoe manufacturing company, Atlas and Bata. He has been working there for three years on a rotating schedule. He is also the owner of a small business named "Artisan Chocolates". He started this business following his wife's idea to have a specialized, fine chocolate store. They make specialized assorted candies, chocolate bars, and nougats. They are all made for special occasions, such as Sweet 16 parties, weddings, baptisms, anniversaries and other special events. It is their combined efforts that have yielded these results and they are now able to purchase items for their small home, including equipment for their chocolate store. This married couple want to perfect their skills and keep improving their finances. They would like to set up a stand in Chosica, the local fine chocolate district.

The loan requested from Edaprospo (Kiva Field Partner) will be invested in the purchase of implements for their business (chocolate molds, wrappings, and other materials) for the production of their chocolates. The rest of the funds will be put towards the health care and delivery of the new baby. His wife is 8 months pregnant.
