Assuming we keep the same basic format of the interior of the calendar, I didnt think it would hurt to start a topic to gather any pertinent or eye-opening quotes one might come across, much like the 2009 picture thread. If you find one of appropriate size and decent substance simply post with a link to that persons member/lender page and at least include their name and/or any contact info you find listed along side the quote for future reference....in case we choose to obtain their permission, which we probably should this time around. If they are able to be contacted in the future, then quote size does not have to be limited because upon request they can voluntarily condense the length. If I missed anything concerning quote criteria, please add below.

I find not direction in the readings of those with whom my eccentricities are similar, but rather validation.
My only solace is that I find a peaceful place where I might be resigned to my depriving loneliness.

Steve,
Great idea to start this early.
Having participated in the quote committee, I cheer an early start. It was fun to pick a variety of short, snappy quotes and longer poetic ones. We had a variety of appeals, also. Some tended toward emotional appeals; others were more intellectual. We looked for variety to represent the many approaches loaners have!
The biggest thing was to consider that the calendar would represent Kiva to anyone who bought, received or looked at someone's calendar. The messages need to be positive, accurate and inspiring.

Thanks Colette...since you and Oli did so much of the work on the quotes...your feedback is especially valued since in most peoples opinion Im sure, they were all very representative of the Kiva community, covered numerous reasons for lending, and at other times touched on the compassion and emotional impact. They were very thorough and I think will definitely resonate with readers.

Steve (and Colette!),
great idea to start this thread early. Other than the photos, that we stumble across daily and will most probably have a huge variety of to choose from, the quotes will be somewhat harder. If anyone comes across good reasons for Kiva in the "I loan because"-lines of lenders, please post here. We can then see whether we can contact them and ask for approval to print.
Other quotes (more general) on microfinance are also most welcome. The more we have to choose from the better the selection will be. We also have a couple of good ones from last year still open. Anyone wanting to re-suggest ´these may just post them here, too.
Oli

Let me also add that quotes from media, groups, articles, etc, are all welcome as well. Thanks for reminding us Oli that there are some really good ones left over from last year...that hadnt crossed my mind.

Just a hint, if you collect quotes from other sources, it would be helpful to give the source including name of source, date, page, and article name. This will be a way to evaluate if it is necessary to get permission to quote the article and the organization to contact. It is easier to get this while gathering rather than try to figure it out later!

Found something from Eli in here: http://www.kivafriends.org/index.php/topic,1486.2.html. It's my first quote-suggestion: "It (Kiva) certainly has given me an increased and newfound perspective and appreciation, it was always there, but it now persists each and every day with each and every action, and does not fade. I have names and faces, and yes, even a few cows that I can picture when I go about my day." Eli, Kiva-Lender

I read that to Oli, great way to start off the quote list...I love the mention of the cows in addition to the names and faces.

I LOVE that one, Oli! Great find... Here's a simple one from a new member that I thought was very nice: "I love this whole concept. What a beautiful opportunity to join with new friends to help other new friends around the world." Julene, Kiva Lender http://www.kiva.org/lender/julene3839She also works at a chimpanzee sanctuary!
