If I could have a pet bird, it would be an owl.  They have always fascinated me ever since I was riding a trail on my horse about 3 miles from my house.  The owl flew the trail, spooked my horse, well, spooked me too! I lost control and fell off, and .....  well, 3 miles is a long way for a 12 year old to have to walk home....of course finding the horse and mother at the barn Dixie(horse) fine, and mother worried sick. Wink  I want one of those itty bitty ones! of course, I want one of Jill's hippos too!

edit:  that looks like a real photo you took WFGlenda....I'm jealous and spending Next Christmas with you!!!!

Yup - it's an Elf owl - the first I'd seem - taken on a spring trip to Madera Canyon, AZ.  It had a nest in a telephone pole.  I think though, if you came to WI for Christmas you might be able to see a Great-horned, Barred, Screech and possibly Saw-whet owl.  You'd also get a pretty good meal (No, not mouse or owl). REMEMBER THIS AT CHRISTMAS TIME According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December.   Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl. We should've known... ONLY women would be able to drag a fat man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost.
