Lenders:            Student “Entrepreneurs 121” @ St. Lawrence School near Montreal, Quebec, Canada
I loan because:    ** Kids CAN Change The World!!!
***C'est gentil d'aider les autres. Quand on aide KIVA les personnes dans d'autres pays recoivent des pręts pour avoir des petites compagnies.

Their “About me” was a memorial.  Really special.:
To commemorate the life of a young student at St. Lawrence School who passed away this week, we have decided to make a perpetual investment in the name of ADEN ROACH. The first investment is in the business of Mr. Reynaldo Perez Salgado of Nicaragua. This way we are helping Mr. Salgado's seven children. Investments in Aden's name will always go to entrepreneurs with children. This is how we want to celebrate Aden's good heart and we will never forget him.

*Someone could probably improve on my high school French, but I think this means something  close to:
"It's nice to help others.  When you help KIVA, people in other countries receive loans so they can have little businesses."

NOTE: Theirs is a pretty amazing, as in a KivaAddictENTHUSIASTIC Lender Page.  I'd encourage you all to click on the link, above,
to grab yourselves a grin.

Kiva Lender: PinaWongFoundation
Location: Miami, FL United States

I loan because: Josefina "Pina" Wong was born on May 31, 1923 in Leon, Nicaragua. She had a long and fullfilling life which included starting up and running Supermercados Wong, a successful grocery store business with her husband Juan Wong.

In loving memory of Pinita and Juan Wong, their family and friends have come together to start a grass-roots foundation to help struggling families in Latin America and Asia (Pina was 1/2 Chinese and 1/2 Nicaraguan and Juan was 100% Chinese). We wish to give others the opportunity to "lift themselves by the bootstraps" out of poverty and into more productive, fulfilling lives just like Pina and Juan did... with the help of a small loan!

A particularly sad memorial Kiva account, as Kayla was so young when she died in a car accident last year, aged just 16

Kayla Joiner Foundation

Location
Angels in Heaven, FL United States

Occupation:
(Non-profit) Scholarship Foundation

I loan because:
Kayla was working on a project at school. It was called "Pay It Forward". It Read. If someone did you a favor - something big, something you couldn't do on your own and instead of paying it back, you paid it forward to three people. You really can change the world if you care enough.

Unfortunately, Kayla didn't get to finish her project. But I am going to keep paying it forward for Kayla. I know that is what she would have wanted. Kayla has the biggest heart and always wanted to help anyone who needed anything.

About me:
Kayla's Family has set up this foundation in Kayla's honor to give scholarships to high school students who demonstrate a sincere will to pursue a pediatric nursing curriculum and can get the most pledges from fellow students to wear their seatbelt.

I kept seeing the same wonderful face on loans of interest to me today.
So, ol' nosy me, I clicked this woman's lender page to see what we had in common.

Everyone, meet Judith. She's new here:

Location:     Corvallis, OR United States
I loan because:    Judith is our mom, she past away on September 14, 2007. She wanted to help and does so from heaven.

I got chills when reading the additional posts since my last visit. The memorials are so touching. My deepest condolences to all of you. Hugs to you.

In a rather new development, the memorial question has received a simpler solution. Now that Kiva has begun to allow for donations in groups, it will make it easier for people to link to the GROUP to be able to memorialize. It makes consolidation of theme giving more accessible for those who are not especially computer literate or phobic about electronic fund transfers. I am still rather surprised how many individuals are completely phobic about using PAYPAL or anything commerce related online. This seems to be a generational thing. The electronic age seems to still frighten potential lenders.

The way that I try to minimize this risk, is to suggest that people get a low limit internet credit card that is NOT connected to any accounts. That way risk is not associated with a high potential liability and banks are happy to acquiesce to such a request. Then I direct them to PayPal. Has anyone here had similar encounters?

By the way, I did join the KivaFriends Group for my online funding activities, and am thrilled to see that our numbers are the highest for this relatively new project.

Thanks to everyone who assisted me in this thread, and my best wishes to all who read it. Fond regards, Christine

Thanks for your feedback, Christine. Very much appreciate it!

Seems like a lot has been going on since your first post. This thread has become particularly dear to me since I was also considering setting up a memorial fund. I opted against it. But just because my dad really was not into Kiva. I had told him about it several times, but he didn't want to get into it. So, considering this is more "my" thing, I am making loans in my own account remember him. The latest was the one on his birthday:

Carlos Guillermo Obando Reyes, who shares his name and the caring for his family. And many Kivafriends joined in on it. A fitting tribute, too.

All the best
