Hi All, Howdy

Thought I would start a new thread so that we have a place to alert our Kiva Friends when we see a new country to loan to or one that hasn't been available for months, so that those who like to loan to various countries can have the opportunity to participate in a loan.

Let me start with this one: Tada

El Salvador

Cheers,
Natasha

Hi Natasha,

great idea, to collect such events into one thread ...

Great idea. We can learn from Kiva MFI notifications or language volunteer requests what might be in the pipeline. And I saw somewhere that 2008 might offer 7 or 8 Middle East countries instead of the present 2. Is there a Kiva newsletter somewhere, which might also tell os what to expect?

Just read elsewhere about the newsletter. Hope it catches up with me sometime. P.S. Also agree on El Salvador - and there was talk of this, maybe on a blog.

Howard - this is where you can find Michelle Kreger's excellent reports from her trip to Latin America a couple of months back:
http://www.kiva.org/about/archivedNews/

Look about 40% of the way down that very long page for her October 8th piece "Kiva en San Salvador" in which she writes in her typically engaging way about setting up Kiva's relationship with Apoyo Integral, the new El Salvador Field partner.

Thanks, Peter - I'll check it out straightaway.

A further thought. what about CUBA? Things are moving down there, it seems.

And again, in Central America only Costa Rica, Panama and Belize still out in the cold.

Thankyou Gentlemen!   Smiley

Just look at all those Kiva Friends on one loan!  Party
http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=28379

I look forward to seeing more new loan countries become available on Kiva in the near future! Cool

Condolences to those who missed out this time, but as we know there will always be another loan just around the corner...  Empathy

P.S. Claus-Peter, I noticed that you and I posted about the same time with the alert and it look like we loaned about the same time too!  High Five

Just a thought, but Apoyo Integral, the new Field Partner in El Salvador seems to be giving the full street addresses of their borrowers in the "location" field, which is almost certainly not a good move for all kinds of reasons?

the 3 so far:

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=28639
http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=28392
http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=28379

Perhaps this arises from a language problem, with someone in the Apoyo office misunderstanding what Kiva wants them to put in that field?
