I've been a kiva member for over a year now and I just discovered kivafriends.org! I stumbled upon it via the kiva page on change.org: http://www.change.org/nonprofit_page/nonprofit_about/16338 I also discovered a number of other useful links along with it (like kivapedia).

So my first suggestion to kiva is very simple: Put these links on the kiva home page! Or at least in the Help Center somewhere. Tie it all together, so that the kiva community can grow.

 Welcome
Welcome Warrensomebody to Kiva Friends!

Um... It is listed in the Help Centre under both "community" and "contact us"
http://www.kiva.org/about/help/community
http://www.kiva.org/about/help/email

"To get your questions answered quickly, try posting them on KivaFriends, a community discussion board created and maintained by Kiva lenders. Here, members of the Kiva community can help answer many of the most common questions. Or, you can learn more about how people are supporting Kiva in their cities, companies and communities!

By posting your questions on KivaFriends, you will help minimize Kiva.org's operational expenses, and more importantly, you'll have a chance to connect with fellow Kiva lenders!"

But please remember we are not volunteers or employees of Kiva but just a group of enthusiastic Kiva lenders!

But yes a link on the homepage would also be nice too!

Cheers,
Natasha

You're right. I don't know how I overlooked this. Cheesy I even did a google search for the word "kivafriends" on site:kiva.org, and only found the kivafriends member page (http://www.kiva.org/lender/kivafriends) -- something I never would have found if I didn't know what I was looking for. So maybe my request is for a little better site design. And maybe a mention in a kiva mailing or blog post too.

Welcome Warren, its great to have you...like you Ive been a Kiva member for over a year and didnt come across KF until this past august, but I sure am glad I did...its an unbelievable place and for me makes Kiva even more enjoyable and meaningful.

Your suggestion is definitely a good one, unfortunately its been a suggestion many people here have either mentioned or been pushing for quite some time.  Kiva does have a link to KivaFriends...go to "get involved" and then "connect with others."

http://www.kiva.org/about/connect/

They have also included Kiva Friends on their page devoted to assisting people with questions for or about Kiva, the help section you refer to...

http://www.kiva.org/about/help/community

They even included a link to the 2008 calendar KF created portraying borrowers from all over the world, and that was only two pages deep.

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=gift&action=home

But they dont seem to be willing to make a big bold statement about Kiva Friends to every member that comes by their site, and I guess by now thats understandable for me, or maybe Ive just come to accept it.  They arent affiliated with us, or us with they, in any way so they are probably leary of overly promoting an outside site, although they have nothing but great things to say about us here...but then again, even something small towards the bottom of the page would be better than nothing.  I think this place really does enhance the lending experience and I couldnt see how directing people here would have any negative effects on Kiva.

I find not direction in the readings of those with whom my eccentricities are similar, but rather validation.

My only solace is that I find a peaceful place where I might be resigned to my depriving loneliness.

Hello Warren,

We all wish the link to kiva friends was easier to find at kiva.
However, you can help spread the word with your kiva profile.

Here's a thread about how.
