I'm only 36, but I'm having a heckuva time reading the numbers on this calendar. I think for next year we should try to make the numbers bigger. I'm afraid I might have to move this calendar to a less prominent spot because I just can't read it.  Cry

Great idea for a topic Nicole..I thought I started one just like this, but I see it was for distribution and promotion ideas....in time this one will see plenty of posts and will be a great thread to reference from.

Sorry to hear the numbers are straining your eyes...probably causing a couple headaches too...certain things affect some and not others, but so long as the visual aesthetics remain intact I dont see why we couldnt manage that alteration.

Ill help get this thread rolling and contribute a suggestion.  Let me suggest, if you dont mind Nicole, that to make it easy to find and review the one line suggestions, that we use red text for the suggestion....if this thread really grows it will make it so much easier on us all when we browse through it to consider everyones new ideas for improving our great calendar.

Maybe next time around we can gloss over the front and back of the cover by using a just as durable glossy sheet if possible...it would make the first page much sharper like the rest of the calendar.

I find not direction in the readings of those with whom my eccentricities are similar, but rather validation.

My only solace is that I find a peaceful place where I might be resigned to my depriving loneliness.

Lovely idea about the red font color, Steve! And I think the reason the numbers might be affecting me more is because I'm sitting at a desk and trying to read the calendar from a distance of about 4-5 feet (it's hanging on the wall beside me). I've had calendars there for years, though, and never had a problem. No big deal, though. There was so much to think of so FAST on the last effort! If I move it, I'm going to move it into the guest bedroom. Little bit of propaganda advertising!  Cheesy

I agree! As soon as I saw the numbers, I put the calendar aside.

Could we please have a hole punched in the 2009 calendar? Those of us who don't have any more horizontal surfaces free from clutter need to hang calendars on the wall!

If we are crediting MFIs for their info and photographers for their pictures, then I think we might want to consider including at least the name of the MFI.  They are a huge part of what Kiva does and if the legalities are worked out this time around and we are permitted to send them to the MFIs as we planned, at least the ones we use pictures from, they will definitely be disappointed to not see a single mention of their institution.  Assuming we maintain the majority of the design of the interior of the calendar, I think we could fit this detail in alolng with the listed info to the right of the calendar pages.

I wholeheartedly agree that we need an easier way to coordinate the calendar planning.  Following a forum thread of several hundred posts was hardly efficient.

So for this purpose I've created a page on Kivapedia:

http://www.kivapedia.org/index.php/Calendar_2009_Planning

Please edit that page and add your wants to the list.  If you'd like to use this thread to discuss things, that's fine, but I plan to use that wiki page as the master planning document.  In other words, if you want your opinion considered, make sure it makes its way to the wiki.

Oh, Chris, don't make us do that!

After an abortive attempt to edit an article on Wikipedia, I gave up on the whole concept! Please let us keep our suggestions simple, and use the thread.

Maybe someone who is computer savvy and has time for it can consolidate ideas...any volunteers?

Good idea keeping things simple and separate Chris...I dont know how well that will work out though...everything will overlap with suggestions on Kivapedia and discussions here in the forum...when the discussion changes something or decisions are made, which will definitely be discussed, its inevitable, then those same changes need to be made to kivapedia to keep it up to date...I think the calendar project will be more vast this year....there are a whole lot more people wanting to get involved and depending on the liberties we are granted, we will most likely introduce new ideas for spreading these around and getting them to people who can make the most with them...thats why i started the "promotion and distribution" thread.  I thought that perhaps if we split up the calendar creation into two or three creative yet specific threads that it would be much more concise and organized.  And so we might be spending some time sifting through the thread.

At the same time, I cant imagine we will need to post what might have been 30 pages or so, discussing just how the interior should appear...the calendar, depending on the section we are referring to, is more or less well structured and has a strong creative foundation already established and Im not sure we will see a thread that is nearly as long and as difficult for some to follow unless they miss the boat.  Of course with all the contributors, interest, and personalities, mine included, it very well could be a very lengthy thread, but let me say that I think most of that discussion will be both before and after the calendar creation...so it might not be that difficult to follow the part of the thread pertaining to actual calendar creation

I guess it wasnt difficult for me to follow along last year because I made sure I was up to date every day and I didnt have too much of an issue with going backwards and finding information here or there.  So all in all, Im all for your idea, so long as our efforts to organize the calendar chat dont make chatting about the calendar all the more difficult and confusing...Im even considering dropping the thread I started that was intended for discussion after the calendars completion, because I am certain discussions will overlap and people will be calling for a merging of threads more than once, as the same conversations could end up occurring in two places.

I cant imagine there will be too many suggestions...maybe we can follow along on this thread as it proceeds...and then tackle each suggestion when the time comes to create the calendar by discussing them in the main calendar thread for 2009...these suggestions are easy to find, easy to read, most will not be lengthy or have much follow up because they are direct and simple suggestions accompanied by some slight bit of reasoning for the idea...there is not going to be discussion of ideas in this thread that will allow these ideas to become lost....if this thread stays rather small and ideas are highlighted, it should work for us...just a suggestion of course, not a recommendation  Wink  Im willing to go with whatever everyone else prefers.
