I just received the following PM from KF Heliza:

Hi,

I'm conducting a study on non profit organizations. We're interested in learning about what motivates people to donate their time and/or money to non profit groups and how the Internet plays a role in who they give to. This study is being funded by a non profit organization that would like to remain anonymous so they don't affect the results.

If you have the time, I'd love to talk to you about what motivates you to give to Kiva and any other non profit organizations you support. If you would be interested in talking with me, please let me know. This would work best to talk over the phone, but if you would be more comfortable to respond to the questions over email, that could work as well.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you. I think the information you could provide me would be very valuable.

Thank you,
Haley

It sounds interesting, but I'm put off by their refusal to name the organization funding the study. Anybody else get one of these? Do the interview?

Dottie,

I haven't gotten one.  However, it is typical NOT to name the hiring company for market research as it can affect how one responds.  I base this on working for a market research firm as an interviewer as well as studying marketing in college.

Having said that, I would be careful to make sure someone isn't fishing for information for less than good reasons.  The assumption that one who gives to charity would have money to scam could be made by some looking for quick money.  Be careful about identifying too much financial information.  Income questions would be normal, and I would expect how much do you give type questions.  Banking and Visa information would not fit this type of survey.  There should NOT be any solicitation for donations at the end.

You can always refuse to answer a particular question, and hanging up is an option.

Think personal safety (Does one want to admit to being a senior citizen who lives alone if there is an address easily determined?).  Think keeping finances safe (No Bank account numbers).

No, I would not give out personal information.

I'd be more inclined to respond to a survey if say the results were to be published, as opposed to a non-profit trying to figure out how to increase its funding. For me, the latter would depend on which non-profit!

 Undecided

Didn't get it, Dottie, but I wouln't respond if I were you.  I think you're wise to be put off by an anonymous poller No

Dottie I received this as well.  I told her Id be available to answer questions via email.   Not only on account of a hugely fluctuating work schedule, but also because it will give me time to assess the questions ahead of time.  If she gets back to me Ill let you know.

I find not direction in the readings of those with whom my eccentricities are similar, but rather validation.

My only solace is that I find a peaceful place where I might be resigned to my depriving loneliness.

I received a reply today and an interview questionairre was attached, as seen here.

They offered me a $15 Starbucks GC, but I asked that they donate it to Kiva instead.  So if you get a chance to help with their survey on non profit donating, it might also be an easy way to net Kiva a small donation as well.
