Playpumps is a fascinating concept and seems to be making a difference. I did a little internet research and have a question, though. It seems that this advertising exec Trevor Field founded both Playpumps and Roundabout Outdoor. Playpumps, a non-profit funded with over $15 million from the US government and foundation grants, buys its pumps from Roundabout Outdoor. I could not find an IRS Form 990 from PP on the internet (might call for one on Tuesday), but I assume Field is making money from both these organizations. I'm not sure that is bad - to me it would depend on how much he's making! The pumps do cost three times as much as an ordinary water pump to install, but I understand the operation is cheaper.

Thanks for checking that out. I was wondering about that as well. I was happy to read that they were different organizations, but if they are founded by the same person... Sad

I really like the concept though.

Under 300 behind and closing.

Remember, we need to be UP by 1200-1500 votes before dark tomorrow night.

The contest ends at 2 a.m. eastern time Monday morning, 11 p.m. Pacific time Sunday night.

Our main rivals in this charity race go very big after dark (maybe they're younger than we are, as a group -- sleep late, get up late, STAY up late).

We were up by well over 700 yesterday....they roared back to put us down nearly 1300 by sunrise this morning....we should pass them before dark tonight, but we're liable to fall behind again before sunrise tomorrow, unless we bank a HUGE lead today.

Even if we fall behind again tonight, as long as we get up on them by a large amount tomorrow, we can get some money for PlayPumps International.

And if we don't, it's still a lot of fun trying!!

I think it is because Farm Sanctuary seems to have a lot of European voters, who are fully awake and voting when you guys are all sleeping. Sleepy

....that's good to know :-).  Probably younger, and "east"er.

That's a double-plus for them, with the contest ending when it does.

But we can do this :-)

We're about 150 down.  It won't be long now...but we have to run far past them.

They. Will. Come. Back.

They always come back.

:-D

Yep...our surge seems to have taken the site down ;-)

Hopefully it's only temporary...

Maybe we can surge the system when they try to pass tonight.  I was thinking of posting that their concession would mean we would support them NEXT week.

It could save all of us and them a lot of clicking.  What do you all think?

The website works again. Smiley

@Colette: Don't think they will agree. Anyway a little competition makes it more exciting and raises more money as well.
