I did a search already and didn't find a prior post about runs.

Entry fees normally include a shirt and the organizers are very good about bringing in a lot of sponsors.  Has anyone had any luck putting a run together?  An existing venue without a non-profit affilliate would be perfect.  You already have the running clubs, organizers, sponsors etc.  Just change the name of the race and you have hundreds or thousands of people in Kiva.org shirts.  Give Kiva gift certificates away as prizes.  Don't try to make it a fundraiser for loans, just cover costs and maximize the number of runners and human billboards wearing Kiva shirts.  Sell organizers on large number of Kiva volunteers that will help with the event.  Runners would rather compete than hand out water and Gatorade!

Fantastic summary.

It's been a few days since the last post, and I'm really curious if anyone has gotten into events like these?  The Kiva New York Lending Team has done a fantastic job in stepping outside the box and creating a 5K in NYC.  I'm directing a few triathlons in a town with a slightly lower population.  We give each registrant a $25.00 Kiva Card, but it took us six months of creative expense cutting before we could safely do so.

Anyone else?  I should have thought to ask KF before.  Even if anyone's interested in the possibility of organizing something like this, please do reply.  If it's a three legged race with burlap sacks then don't hesitate to speak your mind.

Campus Kiva at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo had a Fun Run.  It is a club at the Cal Poly campus which put it on.

Hi Colette,

Do you have a contact at Campus Poly? Would love to get in contact with them and see if we can expand the 5K from New York

The Cal Poly chapter is dormant as most of the members graduated recently.  There is a Cal Poly team you could see if posting a message gets some info.

As mentioned, the Kiva NY team does an annual 5K which raises funds to be lent through their team fund account. They've had good success and raised a good deal of money to fund new loans. They also allow virtual participation for runners who can't make it to New York.
