Geoff, thanks for linking to that one. After watching various live versions I agree that the studio version is the best. His lyrics are so poetic. He's so original.

I'm really loving this music sharing thread, thank you everyone for all the wonderful contributions, I really look forward to them.
I don't watch much television, and I specifically don't watch "American Idol", but I hear about what's going on there as part of my attempt at cultural literacy, and will sometimes watch recorded versions of the televised performances after the show. Last week's rendition of Tears for Fears' "Mad World" (every angst-y 14-year-old's lament) sung by Adam Lambert (who appears to be running away with the competition this season) is haunting and magical.
(The video is consistently taken down in copyright challenges when it's posted anywhere other than the American Idol website, so you'll have to follow the link there to hear it, sorry.... but it's worth the trip.)

Bob Dylan has a real gift. He's written so many songs that resonate so deeply. I think he must be covered more than any other songwriter I know. Usually the cover versions are very different from the songs as Bob plays them, too. I guess you can say a lot of his songs have good bones. And usually I don't listen to words much if at all, but Dylan's words are always a crucial part of the song, and they're usually really good. I was thinking of how many songs he's got putting people down, like "Rolling Stone", and lots of others. I don't like those as much. I prefer his visionary ones, like Mr. Tambourine Man. But I realized that the put-down songs are, in a way, an extension of his protest songs, where the thing being put down is the man, or the system, or society, or whatever. Those songs I think are really important and good. So maybe the personal put-down songs are valuable too, in that same way. They point out pitfalls, and help us decide to take a different path. I don't know. I just know that the celebratory songs like "Forever Young" leave me with a better feeling in my guts than some where he sort of lashes out at others. There's no doubt that Dylan has an amazing gift. As a person, in some ways, from reading his various biographies, I don't know what to make of him. A lot of things he did seem wrong to me now looking back. But I guess I admire the honesty of his songs. He believed in what he sang, and in what he did in life. Maybe there's a lesson in there for me somewhere.

In case you haven't seen Susan Boyles Britans Got Talent audition. Worth the watch. Also 2007 Paul Potts audition.

I try to have some different stuff.
Now here a little story first.
I have traveled to Chicago for a hot dog. Drove down to Florida for seafood. I have visited Canada for Maple Syrup on my pancakes. And when my friends and me go to San Francisco, we like to put flowers in our hair.

Don't be put off by the image (it is not a repeat) - this is her singing 10 years ago.
