The only Kiva loans I see in the middle east are in Lebanon.  (I haven't visited the site for a couple of months).  This morning I read that the U.S. government has funded a private agency to deal with micro loans in Anbar Province.  Micro lending in Iraq seems like an excellent idea to me.  Has KIVA investigated the possibility?

There have been a number of Iraqi loans over the last number of months, so far all through this Kiva Field Partner:

http://www.kiva.org/about/aboutPartner?id=50

On the righthand side of their page you can click to see all their loans.

I am sure Kiva is open to additional MFIs in the same country.

And welcome to Kiva Friends where you will find a lot of good folks and information.

 Welcome

Kiva already works with MFIs in both Afghanistan (Ariana Mercy Corps) and Iraq (IAAC).  There were loans to a shop owner in Kirkuk  and to a young metal shop owner in Kabul that funded just this morning, you must have missed them.  (Not all countries have loans available at all times.)

Loans to Iraq are pretty popular, but they are also usually in large enough amounts that you can join them if you stop by while they're still open.  You might investigate padders's alert tool which will send you an email whenever loans from a particular country arrive at the site, if you want to be sure to fund loans there.

And welcome to KivaFriends!
