This is a place to keep track of available Kiva Add-ons for Firefox, discuss them, and demand someone else make even more!

Kiva MFI Checker

Flags entries on the Kiva Lend page based upon a user supplied list of MFI names. Can function as a whitelist or a blacklist. Provides a mechanism by which Kiva users can bypass loans via specific MFIs, or to highlight loans from specific MFIs only.

David's list of MFIs that have "Possible" currency risk that can be used with this add-on.

Social Actions Search

Social Actions - You make a difference, we make it easy. Add Social Actions search to Firefox today to find and share opportunities to change the world. Social Actions helps you find and share opportunities to change the world. First, we collect ways to get involved in the causes you care about from these 50+ action sources, including Care2, Change.org, DonorsChoose.org, DemocracyinAction, GlobalGiving, Idealist, Kiva, SixDegrees and VolunteerMatch. Then, we make it easy for you to find these opportunities by presenting them in a user-friendly search engine.

CauseSense

The ads shown are drawn from 50+ action sources, including Care2, Change.org, DonorsChoose.org, DemocracyinAction, GlobalGiving, Idealist, Kiva, SixDegrees and VolunteerMatch. The add-on is build on top of AdBlock Plus which is included in this release.

I’ve been trying out the Kiva MFI Checker add-on with the “Possible” currency risk field partners blacklisted. I must say, it works quite nicely, even for this ol’ dial-up user.  Since I still like Chrome as my default browser, I just set up the Firefox default home page to be my preferred Kiva Lend page setup – Sort By: Most Recent.  When I’m browsing for loans, I switch between that and Sort By: Repayment Term to get a feel for the current Fundraising listings of most interest to me.

Until someone comes along and saves the day with an add-on that can be used as an enhanced bookmarks/wish list tool, I’ve been trying out the standard bookmark features of Firefox.  To do this, I added a folder to the Bookmarks Toolbar I called Kiva Listings, where I would add any Fundraising business profiles I wanted to track.  Here are some of my observations.

When adding a page to the bookmarks folder (right-click) you can add tags, and once on the list, descriptions (right-click-properties).  The tags will sort bookmarks from the Bookmarks command on the main toolbar.  It also is possible to right-click the list of bookmarks in the folder and add a New Folder or New Separator (line) between items as more ways to organize them.

Perhaps the handiest “Wish List” feature in Firefox not available in other browsers I use is at the bottom of any list of bookmarks. It’s called, “Open All in Tabs.”  When a folder contains a list of bookmarked “Hot Funding Candidates,” clicking Open All in Tabs almost instantly arranges the full set of bookmarks across the top of the browser, one loan per tab.  I personally find this to be a great way to track and review listings beyond any arbitrary “My Basket” time limits.  This method also does not require me to “lend” an amount that is not available to others while I decide whether or not to complete the transaction.

p.s. Here's another discussion on creating an Open All in Tabs list of non currency risk sharing fundraising loans.
