lol!

A while back I made a loan to a woman who bought a Super Nintendo:

However, I was really amazed when I saw people selling coca leaves:

 Shocked

I had always thought any form of coca was a controlled substance everywhere, but I guess not!  Now I realize that it's permitted in certain countries out of respect for tradition.

From Wikipedia:
In Venezuela, president Hugo Chávez said in a speech on January 2008 that he chews coca every day, and that his "hook up" is Bolivian president Evo Morales. Chávez reportedly said "I chew coca every day in the morning... and look how I am" before showing his bicep to his audience, the Venezuelan National Assembly.

Wow, Terry...a Nintendo loan! I'd have to go some to beat THAT one!
VERY unusual, but a good idea for a home-based business!  Cheesy

I guess that's one way to keep the kids off the streets.

There's a loan up NOW for a Super Nintendo, 2 color TV's and 5 chairs In Central America. Yes, I loaned on it because it's such a novel way to make money from home and kids LOVE it.
He wants $500.00, over 12 months.
It's 70% funded already so if you're interested, better move like Super Mario!  Laugh

I've probably loaned to half a dozen people so far through Kiva who have video gaming establishments in their homes.  Most of them mention that it's very popular among young boys and keeps them off the streets, and I know this to be the case.  This doesn't seem like a very odd loan request to me, but that may be because of my personal experience with sons.  Smiley

Stefanie who is in Ghana and collecting information for her thesis would certainly be interested in this business.  Maybe one of you who loaned could post in "Innovative Businesses" where she is collecting the data.  Jane

I have a few video game loans (just got the last $25 on this new one.)  I guess having kids who really like games makes me think the businesses will be successful.

Thanks for the input, Diane.
No kids here so not too familiar with them but  I know that most kids really like them.
(Parents have mixed feelings!) lol

Margaret: Thanks for joining me on the loan. Glad you got in!
I think it is a great microbusiness idea, although I don't have any kids.
However, I have a few friends with children and they REALLY liked them!
(Their parents had somewhat 'mixed' feelings!) lol
