There is a joke about a family taking a road trip, and the kids don't even notice the scenery as they are constantly playing video games!  ("come on kids, time to see the Grand Canyon!"..."Just a minute mom, let me make the galaxy safe for mankind!  Only three levels to go...")
Colette

Gee, Colette, in our family, my wife with a somewhat shamedfaced expression has admitted that as a late teenager she read a book through the entire Canadian Rockies while their family was on a long road trip-never saw a thing.

Although we have always viewed books as more worthwhile than video games, there's a downside for that too.

Dan,

Let your wife know that I would have been reading, too.  Except I would have seen something when we had to pull over when I got carsick!  Even this year at the ripe old age of...oh, never mind...I still have to focus on the road.  I think that was January--a thirty minute drive to Santa Cruz from San Jose!

At least books don't beep or have annoying electronic music-like sounds...

In California we call that marijuana!  Support this loan?  Nope, not gonna do it.  Just not gonna do it.

Colette:

Cannabis is a legal substance, in Canada, for medicinal purposes.
I don't know where/how the script is filled or the conditions for which the narcotic is prescribed but I believe
that cancer and HIV/AIDS are two of them. There are likely more.
The law was amended a few years ago to provide for "...lawful possession for which medicinal purposes
shall constitute a full and complete defence".
Another reason for some of the 'tensions' between the two countries.  Embarrassed

Lorna,

We tend to have abuses of so many things, so I think there is a reluctance to allow a loophole.  Plus, the whole FDA issue.  FDA gradfathered all substances that were in existence back when it was created.  Anything after that has to be approved by the FDA, and it must show that it is safe and effective.  Once a drug is on the approval, there is nothing to stop it from being used for other purposes.  So it creates a dilemma.  Do you skip approval for ONE substance?  If psuedophrenes (the stuff which is from tablets that goes into meth) is inadequately controlled, how do you control this?  Could doctors then approve it for say anxiety?  If a prisoner had cancer, could they use pot?  (If they are refused, can you just see a lawsuit!)  How would you control it so that it didn't walk?

To me, it seems the main supporters have an agenda to generally legalize pot, and that hurts its medicinal legitimacy look and feel.

I don't know if my tone got through, but ironically the "not gonna do it" was mocking a certain politician who is said to have enjoyed the substance in question...
