Hi,

My employer has a few computers to donate (we are located in New Jersey).  They are in good working condition. Does Kiva or affiliated organizations take computers? If yes, can someone please tell me the procedure (whom to contact, transport etc)?

Thanks,
Vijay.

Many major cities have organizations which take used computer donations. There are also sometimes companies that buy used computers to refurbish and resell.

-First check your yellow pages under computers - used, or computers - donations.

-If you can't find anything there, go to/call your local computer store and ask the manager if they know of any local organizations to donate used computers to.

- If they don't, then call up some local schools or large charities and ask if they are interested in any computer donations.

- If you are still getting nothing... hop online and do a Google search for something like: Used Computer Donations New Jersey, or variations on that theme.

- If still no, check with your local Salvation Army, or other charity-run second hand store.

- As a last resort if you need to chuck it, please do so by calling your local solid waste authority and find out the proper way to dispose of electronic waste. There is likely a depot where you can drop it so that the chemicals inside are disposed/recycled properly. NEVER toss batteries or electronics (computers, phones, PDAs, mp3 players, etc) in the landfill. Anything with a microchip should always be treated as toxic waste.

Hope this helps!  Cool

Thank you so much for the reply, Sherri.  My employer used to give them to a local store, where they refurbish and sell, I just wanted to check if Kiva would be interested.

Vijay,

if you want to, you can ask Kiva at contactus (at) kiva.org . They sure will have a reply for you. I don't think they need computers, but maybe they can hook you up with an MFI...who knows?

Thanks for your generous offer!

And welcome to KivaFriends!  Smiley
