I continue to very deeply believe in Irene Kamau and the staff of the MFI she founded, Action Now: Kenya, and I await Kiva’s treatment of them in a balanced, equitable and compassionate manner with even greater impatience than I await their reinstatement to Active status.

And that's not to mention ANK's clientele, our Entrepreneurs, whom I very much want to mention and whom I very much believe in and want to continue to support, as well.

Kiva recently posted this update and materials for Action Now:Kenya.

Status Update: June 29, 2009

Action Now: Kenya recently sent to Kiva a report of journal updates on businesses, actual payments collected from clients, and a summary of activities for 2008. Kiva has decided that it is important to share these documents with lenders though it cannot verify the truth or accuracy of them.

The documents are below:
Journals
List of Critical Businesses with Updates
2008 Activity Report
Repayments on Kiva Businesses in 2009

Thanks a lot, Greg!

These documents contain among other important documents journal updates on many, if not most AN:K borrowers. I will try and post them as "comments" at least to "my" AN:K loans, maybe some more. Too bad that lenders (obviously) won't be informed of these updates (or just the Field Partner update) by e-mail.

AN:K staff have obviously invested a lot of effort and love into preparing these documents - thanks to them!

Best wishes,
Wolfgang.

Thank you Greg for posting this...

How very sad to read over and over the words 'closed business' or 'due to low customer turnout' and most especially the term 'post election violence'.  I cannot imagine how it is to try to live in that kind of world.

I send much strength and good energy to Irene and all the hard workers at AN:K because I am trusting they are doing the very best they can...

Taken from their Annual 2008 Report...

It was completely a daunting task that ANK had to take up, in order to establish the location of most of its clients who got displaced, or had to move their homes and business locations following the skirmishes. Apart from loan collections, the ANK staff also had to act as counselors, to encourage many of their clients who had lost hope after losing their homes and businesses, which were their livelihoods.

All I can do is wish these people a better life than what they have endured to this point...

It hurts to read these updates. I will have to cross-check with the Mark Fund list of borrowers to see who exactly we have supported.

According to the March 31 update, yesterday should have marked the first day of repayments under the agreement Kiva and AN:K signed. It still causes pain to think how AN:K will raise those $950 each month...

I wish there was a way for a volunteer or something to be able to add these as official journal updates for the the borrowers.  Even though they are in a large part sad, I am sure that most lenders would like to hear something specific about their borrower.
