It BAFFLES me why the MFI chose to pose Mulija next to this open wooden box with an alien creature coming after her (I think it's some kind of encased metal pipe, but every time I see it, I'm reminded of sci-fi horror movies). She sells clothes and her husband sells plastics, so...........
Is there a connection between her loan use and this box, or was it just an unbelievably bad choice of location to shoot this picture?  Wacko

Mulija was born in 1987 and she is married. Her husband is employed and he re-sells plastics earning a monthly income of 1000.00KM. In the period when her husband is not employed, they work at the market and sell clothes. They have additional income in the form of a pension of 288.00KM. The Sejdić family have three children, ages 2, 3 and 5. Mulija wants to use this loan in the amount of 1200.00KM to invest in the existing clothes business.

(I first put this post in another thread, but clearly it belongs in this thread, so I'm putting it here instead. Sorry.)

Sometimes a picture can be very interesting in a "What were they thinking?" way.

BRAC Tanzania has some technical issue that makes their pictures tiny. Not content with that, on this loan presentation they have worked hard with what little space they had to carefully make the least of the tiny picture:

Add to this the loving detail with which they do not describe the entrepreneur's business, the great care that they take to say nothing about what she sells or what she'll invest in, and the special attention that they dedicate to remaining silent about any personal detail that might create a "connection", and you get a stunning minimalism that makes this loan presentation truly remarkable:

Biubwa is 27 years old and is married woman. Biubwa conducts small business, which she started in 2006. Everyday, she works from 7am to 6pm at her business.

She now hopes for a loan to buy more items for her business.

BRAC has only been on Kiva for 4 months - but they certainly could use a little coaching...

I checked some of the other loans listed and they all look like the photo was taken in this guys office...

and the few I looked at were all looking to "buy more items for her business"

I think this MFI is in need of as much help as the entrpreneurs they are trying to assist...

how very sad  Cry

We have to agree that BRAC loan descriptions leave a lot to be desired.  They certainly practice "stealth marketing".  They seem to work hard to make their pictures and descriptions as boring as possible.  Sleepy  When searching for loans we now skip over any loan with BRAC in it.  Such a shame, as their borrowers are probably very deserving and have interesting stories.  So BRAC, please, no more prison mug shots or rows of ladies each holding extremely interesting looking paper forms for us to see.   Laugh  A simple picture of the borrower at their place of work makes all the difference.  A few sentences on what the borrower does, what they plan to do with the loan money, and why it matters to them is all that is needed.   Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Elizabeth, I'm not sure, but in The Baby's Foot photo, I think there's also a darker-skinned leg behind and to the right of the foot, belonging to a four or five-year-old child....or is it the arm of an adult....or has my imagination gotten the best of me? Undecided

Ingvar, as you pointed out, the listing for Biubwa Ally is the perfect example of what a MFI should NOT do in compiling a listing for Kiva. (Perhaps Biubwa refused to pose for the camera, hence the view of the top of her head?).....and the new improved BIGGER thumbnail photos on Kiva are wasted on BRAC Tanzania's photo software. It's a shame, because a few hours instruction in both writing and photography could be enough get their listings up to par.

Maybe Kiva staff needs a kind of very basic "manual" for the partners to prepare the requests?  I believe sometimes it may be the lack of English knowledge, so they are able to write very simple sentences.

I don't know how many of us could help Kiva to build such "manual" in local languages, but I would be willing to help with a Spanish translation (and get my Spanish teacher help me with that!).
