4/30 Update located here

Quote
Kiva friends & supporters,

First of all, I want to thank everyone who has participated with us in our Kiva match-grant program.  Over the course of the last week we have joined with you in your generosity in making $625 dollars in matching loans (25 loans of $25 along with $62.50 donated to Kiva).  We are extremely happy with these results and excited about successful repayment leading to more future loans to Kiva entrepreneurs.  Together we are making a difference in the world one person at a time!

Secondly, with regret, I want to let everyone know that as of today we have chosen to discontinue the OHF match-grant program.  It has become apparent over the course of the last week that our organization is not quite ready for managing this kind of program at present.  We began this program to help Kiva members upbuild and promote the work of Kiva, specifically in the area of recruiting new members.  It is still our desire to do so and we hope to try it again in the future.  We will of course reinvest the matching loan funds that have been made pending successful repayment, and continue our own support of Kiva.  If you have any further questions or comments please feel free to e-mail me at bkenney@ohusa.org or give me a call at 859-533-3405.  Again, thanks to those who joined with us in this work and to all those who provided us with valuable feedback; it is greatly appreciated.  Keep going......

Bill Kenney

Kiva supporters,

My name is Bill Kenney and I am vice-president and program director for One Horizon Foundation.  I want to let all Kiva supporters know that our foundation has a small matching grant program designed to help promote and expand participation in Kiva.  The program is really very simple; we match new loans made to Kiva entrepreneurs, up to $100, and leave our money permanently invested in Kiva entrepreneurs, re-loaning it when it is repaid (we also make a 10% donation to Kiva for every matching loan).  So far we have made $2,850 in matching loans for a total of $5,700  (about 228 $25 loans) in new loans generated.  We have an additional $3,150 in matching funds for 2008 and would like to invite Kiva Friends members to participate in helping us to ensure that this money gets distributed.  Our core purpose is to get new people involved in Kiva by giving them the incentive of doubling their contribution and creating a permanent legacy of it through the matching grant.  We want to make this a yearly program and continue to build our stake in the work of Kiva over the long haul (specifically through making and multiplying loans to Kiva entrepreneurs).  So, if you feel comfortable, please join us in this initiative by inviting friends and family to join up with Kiva and double their effect by participating in the matching loan program.  All they would need to do is make their loans (up to $100), e-mail us a copy of the receipt from Kiva, and we will immediately make matching loans to Kiva entrepreneurs and forward them the info regarding these loans.  NO PERSONAL INFORMATION NEEDS TO CHANGE HANDS AND THERE ARE NO OBLIGATIONS OR EXPECTATIONS FOR PARTICIPANTS.  We would also entertain new loans being made by current Kiva members (after the date of this post) at a maximum of $25 per member.  Please join us in our efforts to get more people involved in the work of Kiva through this matching grant program!

Here is the One Horizon Foundation donor page if you would like to take a look at the loans we have made thus far:

Thanks for your consideration!  Spread the word!  Keep going..........

Lorna...
Smiley nothing for me seems to be no-brainer these days... sigh
I sent the Kiva receipt like he asked but then wondered cause it is only for the donation part...
So now I will follow up with the PayPal one...

Did you get a reply from them fairly quickly?

Jan:
I trust Bill. He, personally, is a KIVA lender as well as administering the One Horizons Foundation.
I got an email back from him showing the 4 loans he funded, based on my receipts, just afew minutes ago. I also telephoned him to see if I could participate as I'm not an American so wanted to check to see if I was elegible to participate. He seemed very nice and also sincere. Check out the One Horizons loans. They have funded 120+ microbusinesses. I think it's fine.
Good Luck!
Lorna

P.S. while replying, 2/4 of the loans Bill picked for me are now FUNDED!!! This is so cool!

Before forwarding your email, you can delete or scramble the sensitive line of your address. Bill will nevertheless see that fresh money has been injected into the Kiva system and that it has really been lent to someone.
