One thing I found interesting, and to some extent agreed with the logic behind, was the $25.00 loan limit. Recently it was brought to my attention that some contributors are able to loan more than the $25.00 per loan request. The one I can verify is from a "celeb" (can not name or I'll lose my inside status).
So what is this - Special Treatment? I'd like everyones input.
Thanks - Bill

There's no insider trick: Just click on the dropdown next to LEND NOW and you can lend anything up to the "still needed" amount. You can also change the amount while the loan is in your basket. The $25 loan limit was in effect at times in the past when Kiva had fewer loans available, particularly following a big media event.

I first started in the fall 2007 after seeing Kiva on Oprah - there was a limit of $25 and sometimes there were no people to lend to and we were told to come back another time...

After that I continued to lend $25 - it's a comfortable amount for me - it lets me stretch my money to help more people - I also limit myself to one a payday (well, I try Smiley

dh's explanation is correct and complete.  When there are plentiful loans, anything up to and including the entire amount of the requested loan is available for anyone who wants to fund that amount.  When there are big media events, or a dearth of available loans, the $25 limit is in effect.  (But even then, as dh says one could put $25 in one's basket and change the amount to a greater amount on the My Basket page.)

Unless the "$25 Limit" notice is up on the loan pages, no such limit exists.

When I first joined KIVA, in January, 2008 there was a $25.00 limit on loans. That limit was removed later, that same month. During the time the limit was in effect, there were so few available loans that they funded almost instantly. You had to really jump to get in on one of them.
As one can readily observe, that is no longer the case. KIVA has lots of lenders but also no shortage of microbusinesses to fund. There is plenty of selection and lenders have become, shall I say, more selective. Some lenders now look for specific countries, specific types of businesses, have a gender preference, etc.
To date, no loan has gone unfunded.
I hope that information is helpful.

My first guess: Is his first name Leonardo?
Ok Bill, if I'm right you don't need to make it public, just let me know when I can take over your inside position!  Roll Eyes

Hmmm what can we conclude from the statement he made....the person made a loan for more than $25, so definitely a giving person and not someone "just trying it out," and they're probably computer literate.  We know there is a "Bill" that knows celebrities, and that the wrath of this person, if disclosed, would fall down on the head of Bill--so he must be closely involved with this person in some way, at least by means of contact, perhaps knowing them personally--otherwise most do everything they can to release info on "celebs."  But the fact that he asks whether this celeb is receiving special treatment, sounded a little derogatory towards celebs--almost as if, "why is this person possibly receiving loaning benefits through Kiva just for being a celeb?"  So maybe its not so personal, or maybe it is but Bill just doesnt like this individual all that much.  Just having fsome good old fun Bill so dont take offense, there is a great bunch of people here--Ill put all my marbles on Ellen, hoping the GC I sent her 6 months previous finally reached her  Laugh
