Hi everyone,

I'm a pretty recent member on Kiva.  Really love this site.  I have a fairly basic question.

I'm also going to be getting married soon and was thinking that instead of registering at some store, we'd set up some sort of registry that was Kiva-based.  Not sure how to do this since I'm still just getting to know this site.  I guess one obvious solution is to just post directions on how to give me a Kiva Gift Certificate.  The only problem is that this would force people to sign up for a Kiva account if they were to do this right?  Not the worst thing in the world (nice way to get people to join I suppose, and after all part of the point of doing this is to help spread the word), but is there a less onerous way of doing this in case people just want to give a gift certificate but not go through the hassle of joining Kiva? Open to ideas...

Thanks in advance!

Hello Sonny:

Welcome to KIvaFriends & Congratulations and Best Wishes on your upcoming marriage!  Welcome

I have one idea which wouldn`t require everyone to register in order to give you KIVA gift certificates as wedding

or shower gifts.

Get two people to register, one, a friend or relative of the Bride, the other, a friend or relative of the Groom. Make

it generally known that you, as a couple, have decided that in lieu of gifts, you would be thrilled to receive a KIVA

gift certifiicate. You can go on to suggest that so-and-so (providing contact information for both the bride`s contact

and the groom`s contact) can easily facilitate the purchase. The appointed people can place the orders and hand the

printed gift certificate to the guest, for delivery to you. That way only two people have to register and both the bride

and groom are represented.

Hope that`s helpful.

Congratulations and Best Wishes to both of you!  Confetti

Lorna

Hi Lorna,

Fantastic suggestion! I'm getting married in September and had posted a similar question in another thread. I love your idea. Thank you so much:-)

Hmm - thanks for the suggestion.

What if I just created an account and gave people the password to it and then people just logged in and added Kiva credits?  Would that be against the rules here at Kiva (sharing accounts, etc.)?  Maybe that's even easier.

Anyone who logged into the account could also invest the Kiva credits from any redeemed Gift Certificates in loans, thereby depriving the happy couple of the opportunity to choose their own loans.  (And someone *could* technically invest the entire amount of credit in, say, one single loan.  Not that anyone would do that necessarily, but they *could*.)

I would think this is one of the least preferred options.

Sonny:

Part of the fun involved in lending through KIVA (and yes, it IS fun) is to select the loans. I can think of a few things that are more fun for newleyweds BUT it's a great way to explore a more intellectual pastime together and learn more about each other!  Confetti
