Part of the fun of getting to know someone is getting to know their sometimes peculiar (make that fascinating) likes and dislikes.  We know that KF Quizzoid, for reasons I’m still hoping he’ll reveal to us, has a particular affinity for potato-related loans.  Some of us also know that just about any loan with a picture of a horse in it will be an almost sure sale for KF Brooke.  She’s always looking for another horsey with which to attract her very funny and beyond unique granddaughter, Sabrina, formerly “Dragon Lady,” now “Horse Lady” to Kiva.  KF Peter S won't jump on every single furniture-building loan, but he'll bounce for a lot of them.  If there were any loans that featured elephants in them, you can be sure that KF Eli would come running…..

While there already are numerous threads where we can post new loans that come up that we know will have widespread appeal like the Mortgage the House or Tajikistan & KF Love threads, among others,  I thought it might be fun to have a place where we can post loans that we know will call out to one or more of our special- kind-of-loan-seeking inimitable Kiva Friends.

This first one, Potato Man, is for you…..

EDIT: I almost forgot those loans with an Entrepreneur named Edna.  KF Diane, for her mom,  and maybe KF Antonia , too, will almost always make additional room in their portfolios for any Ednas.  And these were just the ones that came immediately to mind.  I'm sure that some of you can think of others.

Great thread idea, Jill.   Thumbs Up   Grin

In addition to searching daily for borrowers named Edna in memory of my mother, I also look for motorcycle repair loans in honor of my younger son (NOT motorcycle *purchase* loans, which almost every other loan in Cambodia seems to be), and photography loans in honor of my older son.  I have also begun looking for loans to borrowers named Wil-something, in memory of my father.

The latter three I will select if they are available when I have credits or funds to invest.  Edna loans I will make regardless of the financial details.

I find not direction in the readings of those with whom my eccentricities are similar, but rather validation.

My only solace is that I find a peaceful place where I might be resigned to my depriving loneliness.

The Top Ten Reasons That I Like Potatoes
-------------------------------------------
 10.  The United Nations has named 2008 the International Year of the Potato.
  9.  Most vodka is made from potatoes.
  8.  In the 16th and 17th century, aphrodisiac qualities were ascribed to the root. Shakespeare's Merry Wives of Windsor (1623) has Let the skie raine Potatoes.
  7.  No matter how they are prepared, they are very tasty.  (I even like them raw with a little salt).
  6.  You can mash 'em, smash 'em, skin 'em, or whip 'em, and they still taste great.
  5.  Without potatoes, fish and chips would just be . . . . . fish.
  4.  Since I'm one-quarter Irish, there's an ancestral connection to them.
  3.  Because it's fun to say "spud."  Spud, spud, spud, spud, spud.
  2.  Without potatoes, there would be no tater tots.  Also fun to say.
  1.  Potatoes are so great, they have their own Broadway show tune.  Thanks, Gershwin and Gershwin.

On a serious note, I got interested in potatoes recently because of this article:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080415/lf_nm/agflation_potato_dc

Someone else on KF also recently mentioned this article (or one similar to it).

Maybe we can help address hunger by growing more potatoes.  Thank you for the heads-up on the potato loans.

Quizzoid,

Here is a famous Scandinavian staple made from potatoes:
It's really good right off the griddle with a little butter, sugar, and cinnamon.  Then you roll it up and cut it into smaller pieces. It's also good without the above in a wrap sandwich.   Wink

Two More Reasons To Add to Quizzoid's Top Ten....

1- Potatoes Clearly Bring Out PERSONALITY.  Very fun, Quizzoid, thanks to potatoes, we now get to see you in a totally different,
    smile-inducing brighter light!

2- Without potatoes, many of us never ever would have had the hours and hours of pleasure of playing with .....

(Upon serendipitously coming upon a photograph of one of the Presidential candidates posing with this guy when I just now went treasure-hunting at Google Image, I found this totally absurd Only in America-type  article that some of you might find entertaininghttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/12/31/AR2007123102054.html)
