Hi Sherri,
Thank you for doing this.  Thumbs Up
Here is our farming loan. Anyone else care to invest in a melon farmer?

Thanks Oli and everyone!

Agriculture! That's the word I was looking for when I started this. I kept thinking 'plant-food farmer'? Lol. Agricultural farmer. That's the term. Haha.

Got 5 takers so far. Lots of good possibilities listed by Colette too.

Psst- thanks Rebecca- glad you found the links interesting. PM me if you know of other good resources I should include links to on that page! Smiley

Here's my entry:

Usmonjon Abdulloev from Tajikistan, who is "... engaged in the family business of growing and selling rice, onions, potatoes and carrots. Besides that, he also is engaged in wholesale tea trading."  (Add a livestock seller and a dairy farmer as neighbors and we've pretty much covered the waterfront!)

Great hat, but too bad he looks so solemn.

Excellent! Thanks Diane!

That puts the count at 7 so far...

(Agreed, that hat is something else!)

Here is a new one.  He grows rice, an increasingly expensive commodity.  After the cyclone in Myanmar (previously Burma), rice is expected to be even shorter in supply.  Myanmar where the cyclone hit is low lying and necesarily near water, perfect for rice and cyclones!  It is a rice self-supporting nation or at least it has been.

Here is the loan for an Ecuadorian rice farm.  I am sure he will find a market for his rice!  At six months, this is a shorter term loan, too!

Edit--a female rice farmer from Ecuador is also available.

Yes, the situation in Burma is so sad! It's too bad that there is such bureaucracy in getting aid into the country.

Thanks for posting these suggestion Colette! Are you going to do one yourself? Wink

Sherri,

I am in re-loan mode, so it is all about the timing!  I have more causes to support than funds, so it will be a fist fight to see which wins out.  If I see the vegetarian restaurant in Peru again, all bets are off.  Solar cookers would also be way up on my lists.  My next loan is scheduled for May 11, I think.

My next loans I hope to find in Tajikistan, Ecuador, or Indonesia (MBK especially).  If a good, short term loan that meets your specs is available in those countries, it will be a strong contender.  I have three others coming up in May and at least two in June, so it is just a matter of time...

Meanwhile, to support your concept and the foundation, I can post contenders for those whose timing is different.
