How do I pick my loan?

Right now, from the few that are left!

I'm curious to the process that you use to decide which microloans you fund. I tend to look for "arts" first, then countries that I have not made a loan to in the past. I'm also always looking for loans that just inspire me and then do quite a few to Bolivia since that is where my mom was born. Obviously, everyone approaches the way that they look for the microloans differently and I'm curious if you would be willing to share the way you do with all of us.

Hi,

there has been a similar thread earlier - maybe you want to have a look there: http://www.kivafriends.org/index.php/topic,2243.0.html

Best wishes,

I do my best to select loans that are environmentally sustainable. Call it triple-bottom line! I chair the Kiva group: Environmental Loan Group http://www.kiva.org/community/viewTeam?team_id=231
where we share sustainable lending opportunities on Kiva.org. One day, we will be on page 1 of the website.
We hope to get better information on the loans from Kiva and partners in the future. For example, there was a woman doing recycling, with a picture of a fridge in a pile of metal. I wanted to know how she was planning to dispose of the CFCs (or HCFCs if we are lucky!) We have been pressing Kiva to develop environmental sustainability criteria, and are waiting to see what changes are made. After all, what kind of world are we trying to create?
I hope you will join us!

OK, heres a new contest - who is the oldest Borrower?

This one might appeal to those who are predisposed to the octogenarians - it's quite a remarkable write-up, too

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=58562&_tpos=13&_tpg=1

Have any of y'all seen someone older?

Yesterday's Kiva Blog (http://kivanews.blogspot.com/2009/03/oldest-kiva-entrepreneur.html) asked the same question:

Quote
Is Braudelina Florentino the oldest entrepreneur on Kiva? She's 83 and has a home candy business!

The answer is "no" - two older borrowers had been found by Eli and Ann here:
Maura Cecilia Ramirez Palomino (84)
Quan Nguyen Thi (85)

I did some "research" and tend to believe that
Juana Wichata Yucra (86)
is Kiva's oldest borrower.

Followed by Quan Nguyen Thi (s.a.) and
Felicitas Tinoco Mendez (85)

The oldest "active" borrower seems to be
Edma Clarisa Torres (84)

Best wishes,
Wolfgang.

Check out Kiva Fun Facts, as not seen on Letterman!  Cool

Liane

Oh, borrower!   Embarrassed

Well, anyway, I think Liane borrowed $3 to make her last loan.   Cheesy
