I might be in the minority, but I dislike the canned invites no matter what they say--because they come across as exactly that--canned invites.

I would far rather send a link to the borrower page I just lent to with some background on Kiva (if they haven't already heard my enthused endorsement).

As Richard points out, it's the "specific" which really sells.  And the specifics are quite difficult to generalize about, as the conversation here has attested.

Suggestion: Make it easier to get to the borrower's page from the checkout page so I can send the link.  Right now there isn't even a button to get back to Kiva!

I've never used a canned Kiva invite either, but I also support Kiva providing some leadership to help us consider some options. 

I just read another term for MFI clients used in a publication, "financially excluded, low-income people."
