Hello,

I decided to make a personal challenge to fill a select group of loans.  I am offering to break my VOW to only reloan and make new loans based upon getting some loans filled by midnight on Monday night.  Each loan filled from the below list contributes $5 toward a new loan, so any five will do.  I will add a few loans tomorrow.  The loans I fund from this challenge will be from this list...unless they are all filled while I sleep!

Quick, tell your friends and family to join you in making a loan for this challenge.

I chose some of these from Cloudia's list of shorter term loans that are available.  One popped onto the ol' Tajikistan thread asking for help to fill it.  Samoa needed its taro represented.  Tajikistan needed its cow.  Dominican Republic seemed a good representative.  I also got in an agriculture loan.

My goal is to get some loans moving!  If we funnel funds to a select few loans, it will mean those loans are moved on to their recipients.  Loans 1-3 are with organizations which tend to fund quickly.

1.  Eighteen women from Paraguay with various businesses need your help.  Fundación Paraguaya is ranked five stars, and often disburses its loans within days of being funding.  Best yet, this is a 3 month loan!

2.  Fifteen women from Paraguay with various businesses need your help.  Fundación Paraguaya is ranked five stars, and often disburses its loans within days of being funding.  This is a 4 month loan.

3.  A woman from Tajikistan who sells cloth—quite beautiful colors!  IMON is ranked a five star organization.  The loan is for six months.

**** This one is now filled!!!  ****

4.  She is from Samoa, and she has a taro farm.  Loan is for a year.  South Pacific Development is a four star organization.
http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=49002&_tpos=3&_tpg=1
****  This one is now filled ****

5.  A group loan from Dominican Republic for various businesses including used clothing.  Loan is for six months.  Field partner Esperanza International is a four star organization.
http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=47974&_tpos=11&_tpg=1

6.  A man from Tajikistan wants to purchase a bull.  (Pssst, Michael, I hear the bovine creatures are more homebodies in Tajikistan than in Africa)  Another five star organization for this 8 month loan.
http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=48850
**** This loan is now full.  ****

7.  A man from Azerbaijan sells Potatoes.  This spuds for you!  Loan term is a year with another five star organization.
http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=42360&_tpos=16&_tpg=1

8.  Loan #50000 because it is #50000.  As of Saturday at 7:46am California (Kiva) time, there is money left.  Go into chat and the man who has caught this big fish can release you a bit.

....and once Colette has all hers filled, if you have any cash left please take a look at

 http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=46298

This one has stalled with 16 days left.  No new money has flowed in for at about three days.  These folks make and sell new clothing, they are not re-selling used clothes and we have seen in many other loans.  Where's the love, folks?

How's THAT for a hijacked thread?   Roll Eyes

Kivafriends.org scrambled and respelled is "Risk And Forgive."  Of course, it also can be respelled "Asked For Virgin" and "Darer of Vikings" and even "Vinegar For Kids" but those are a lot less interesting.

No fair Michael, I was going to bring other loans in AFTER Monday.  If people are interested enough to participate, I will do up to four loans.

By hijacking my thread, your loan goes to the bottom of the pile.  Peter asked nicely, so his is a contender...

My game, my rules.   Best part is that I can make up rules as I go along to deal with hijacking threads!   Laugh

Loan #50,000 is now filled, and this is the first of five loans to qualify for the challenge.  What is really amazing is that this loan was held by Peter, Diane and then Jane to have 100% Kiva Friends on the loan!!!  It might have gone a lot faster if free market had been in place.  Look at all of the familiar faces and references to KivaFriends!

http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=50000

Then go to the first post, and see if there is a loan you can help out on to meet the challenge.

THERE, Colette.... your challenge has relieved me of the last remnants of my Kiva credit.  I hope you're happy with yourself.

Colette:

You missed one of the BIG GROUP loans from Paraguay. I believe there are 22 women in this one. It's a 5 STAR MFI, 4 month loan:

Thanks!

Lorna,

Had to spread the love, and believe it or not I almost included this one instead of one of the others.  Read a little more carefully and found "coal" in it.  I figured it three days wasn't really fair if I included coal or guinea pig loans (which I also excluded).

Again, my game, my rules.  Kidnapping this thread wins no favors.  Michael, looks like your loan is moving up the food chain.

Read the first post.  Each loan closed means $5 toward making another loan by me.  One down four to go.  Next week, I will do more challenges.

Ok, Colette...

I need some education...what's wrong with coal?

Still used in the USA as a heat source, although does not burn very cleanly.

The Samoan loan is filled, so that makes TWO of the five loans to meet the challenge.

Thanks for everyone who participated in any of these loans.  It isn't that these are necessarily the best, oldest, most deserving, but I wanted to channel things so a FEW loans could fund quickly.  With too many loans, many of them huge dollar value, almost all but the smallest most popular types of loans languish on the boards.

Even if these loans aren't your personal favorites, in a sense you can show that you are voting to have the current supply of loans such that they DO close in a more reasonable period.  You vote with your pocket book.  I have opened mine in this manner as I believe that my $100 which I will apply over time is more about influence of Kiva than the $100.  Your vote is a vote of confidence that together our voices can be heard.

Please look at the first post and see if something floats your boat!  Any odd $5 will role over to the next challenge...

Nice challenge Colette...just received some credits so I threw a bit on one of the Paraguayan loans...$2000 to go and only 17 days remaining.
