There is a loan I have already chosen and several more contenders as soon as only TWO more loans close.  I am really, really excited about one of them.  If I post before two more close, it will disburse funds too much.  What I will say is that the one I will be putting the $25 from this challenge toward!

There are quite a few loans which only need a few people's help...I am really proud of the first loan's progress.  About 36 hours ago, it had $825 in funding and now $2825!  Only $200 to go.  You guys are amazing...

Couldn't do this without you.

Hello,

Four of the loans have been filled!   Only one to go.  I have left all the challenge as it were in the first post, but this is to highlight the remaining four.

1.  Eighteen women from Paraguay with various businesses need your help.  Fundación Paraguaya is ranked five stars, and often disburses its loans within days of being funding.  Best yet, this is a 3 month loan!  My notes indicate that this partner disburses very soon after the loan has filled, doing so out of its working capital until the month transfer of funds by Kiva.  Not all partners are able to do this.

2.  Fifteen women from Paraguay with various businesses need your help.  Fundación Paraguaya is ranked five stars, and often disburses its loans within days of being funding.  This is a 4 month loan.  Same partner, so same quick funding potential!
http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=45914

5.  A group loan from Dominican Republic for various businesses including used clothing.  Loan is for six months.  Field partner Esperanza International is a four star organization.

Dominican Republic is Haiti's neighbor.  Many Haitians work or buy their products in Domincan Republic.  Since loans from Haiti are not common and fill quickly, this was the best substitute I can find to help out in Haiti.

7.  A man from Azerbaijan sells Potatoes.  This spuds for you!  Loan term is a year with another five star organization.

Hey, we decided potatoes were good crops as they grow in many climates.  Also, their shelf life makes importing them less practical, so it is rather a protected market.  We should do a cookbook on 101 things to do with a potato.  Yeah, I like them that much!

As soon as a fifth loan is made, I will add some new loans with a further out date to add to the challenge.  Oh, and that loan will be made to one of the challenge loans at that point.  I can hardly wait for an excuse to break my resolve.

Hello,

It is soooo very close to having the fifth loan close, and I am

Featured Field Partner is Pro Mujer, Bolivia.  I chose this because of the blackboard in the background of the picture.  VIH – SIDA is written on it.  SIDA sounded familiar to me from my travels in Europe.  It was written discretely on a paper in a second story window along with some other words.  It was French, but my fellow traveler said it meant AIDS.  Let’s just say I was in a red light district…So I babelfish VIH SIDA and it means, HIV AIDS.  Sure enough, Pro Mujer does health education including AIDS education and Pap tests for early detection of cervical cancer issues.  Over 4000 children were treated for respiratory infections and diarrhea, which can be life threatening in the youngest children!  More than 1600 children received required vaccinations.  They also offer legal education and support which might be used for victims of domestic abuse.  Additionally, there is a computer center for children to learn basic literacy, word processing and spreadsheets.

“FINANCIAL SERVICES
Pro Mujer offers loan capital for the women’s small-scale businesses and opportunities to save a portion of their profits through the communal bank structure. Bolivia is a very competitive environment for microfinance, and Pro Mujer has successfully carved out its niche as one that reaches the most marginalized women, typically migrants from the rural areas to the poor neighborhoods surrounding major cities such as La Paz. These women bring their skills and strong convictions to provide for their families, but very few are able to access the formal financial institutions, even the specialized regulated institutions. For these women, credit alone does not serve their needs. Pro Mujer provides an alternative delivery system for its credit services, the group oriented communal banks which appeals to women traditionally accustomed to working in community groups. Secondly, Pro Mujer offers integrated credit and training services which few other organizations offer.”   All this is according to their partner information.  http://www.kiva.org/about/aboutPartner?id=59

Sometimes we look at interest rates alone to judge what it costs to get a loan, but this is one time that I am thinking that the higher rate is a big part of the success of the women.  I mean financially, emotionally, and physically.

Please share Kiva with someone whose life has been touched by AIDS, Cervical Cancer, or domestic abuse.  They can show support for their cause and fight poverty all at once by making a loan through Pro Mujer.  http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=46298

The newest challenge is to fully fund these Bolivian loans by Thursday at midnight.
Again, $5 per filled loan toward yet another loan.  And as soon as a fifth loan closes, I will contribute my loan toward a challenge loan!

1.   This is the one that inspired me.  Look at the chalkboard.

Today is all about Bolivia as I think this is long enough!  The previous post contains loans which are still in the running through Monday at midnight!  I am off to get 40 winks...

I wait until there is a second date...sometimes things fall out of baskets before being paid.  It has been up and down within $100 of closing for awhile now.  It just CLOSED.  I am too tired not to send my financial information to Ingvar while getting my loan.  But tomorrow I will put $25 on Bolivia's loan that inspired me the one with VIH - SIDA on the chalkboard.

I will add more loans tomorrow.  I was making too many mistakes earlier.

Great job everyone, the first loan from Paraguay funded today.  It is ALREADY disbursed!!!!
http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=46460

That is the FIFTH loan, so I have made a loan on one of the next loan challenge loans:
http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=46298
Thusday at midnight is the goal for this one.  I also sent my first invitation EVER out on this loan!

Still available for the Monday by midnight challenge:
2.  Fifteen women from Paraguay with various businesses need your help.  Fundación Paraguaya is ranked five stars, and often disburses its loans within days of being funding.  This is a 4 month loan.  Same partner, so same quick funding potential!

I know this is four loans and five completed challenges are needed, but I will add more after the midnight Monday ones all fill or expire.  Some are really close!

Thanks for doing all the leg work and making these suggestions, Colette. I took up your challenge on the above loan.  Smiley  Now I'm going to scramble over to the other thread, "How do you stay within your budget?" to see if I can pick up a few much needed tips before things get out of control.  Laugh

I put $25 on Mujeres Unidas, the Dominican Republic loan, though the challenge expires tonight and I'd be surprised if it was fully funded. But it does have only $375 to go, and I like Esperanza, because I've had good experience with it and because it was founded by former Seattle Mariner Dave Valle and is headquartered in Bellevue, WA. (Go Mariners!)
