Ok, probably a stupid idea & maybe not so specific to the group loan problem... Maybe instead of having the lend page automatically load with the popularity rank system (so the person has to change to old-to-new if desired), it could be set to load using the old-to-new ranking?? Given the finding that people frequently stick with a default setting (so, so true!), perhaps people would not bother changing & would thus view (& hopefully lend to) the older loans.. It might also help with the minor irritant of having loans just viewed also appearing on the next page as someone loans to something new... I sure hope that all made sense! I know it's not so sophisticated an idea as many already mentioned, but maybe easier to implement..? On something of a tangent - is there any way I can set old-to-new as default for when I log in? (It's easy to forget to change it.) EDIT: D'oh! Pressed quote instead of modify to add the random thought I forgot to add! *Has lost her brain*

There is no way to set your default sort preferences other than the bogus "Popularity" ranking at this time.

Sounds like an excellent item to put in the Suggestion Box! I would certainly use old-to-new as my default as well Nonny (hee hee...Diane: bogus...so true!)

Has anyone else noticed that the group loans are now posted for the total amount of the loan, and the amount per entrepreneur is no longer shown?
I'm not a big fan of most group loans, but I'm most interested in supporting groups where the amount per lender is rather small (less than $100). This will make it more difficult for me to find these loans, because not only will I have to do calculations (horrors!!!), but I'll have to click on the loan descriptions in some cases to find out how many members there are in the group.
Just wondering if anyone else had noticed this, or is bothered by it.
Marsha

When this was brought up to KIVA staff some time back, they felt it wasn't a good idea because people arriving for the very first time on KIVA.org should see what the lending community has chosen as the most interesting loans - whereas if they first see a stream of loans which might be expiring for some reason (e.g. long term, unattractive picture, unpopular business etc.) it might not hook people as quickly. I feel that when Kiva gets through doing everything else the ideal thing would be a page like we have now - but then a separate section like they have on the home page that highlights a few of the expiring loans.

Hi Marsha, Since you mention it I'm on a loan that's languishing - and I can't figure out why. I've read it several times and I don't see any downside to it. And it's not a lot more than one hundred dollars per person (where's the shameful hustler smiley when you need it Only 11 days left!!! Get it while you can!!!

What a great idea! I like it! Take care, Wolfgang.

I remembered this thread from a while ago... I have one loan that I joined a few weeks ago and have been waiting for it to be funded... These large Bolivian loans don't really have much to distinguish themselves from each other and so they don't stand out from the crowd. It now shows only 7 days left - anyone want to help ? Speaking of languishing............... FYI There are some other loans that have only 4 days left and more to fund than this one. (Not to detract from your post Jan) but sorting "old to new" shows some new "red liners." Jane
